Which Turbo Kits To Buy?

Hello, im currently in the planning process of turboing my 1995 NA8, I have originally ordered an Australian AVO Turbo Kit for my NA8, however the retailer i have ordered them through is taking their sweet time to "confirm manufacturing". So I was just wondering if I should cancel the AVO kit for a refund and instead order a custom Kraken kit with a 2560R. I have been told it'll only be a 2ish week wait time through Kraken. I also currently have AC and PS and intend to keep both if possible. I also understand that going through Kraken is a couple of hundred AUD more however Im happy to pay that if it means I'll get the kit quicker and also if it means the kits reliability is significantly better, overall, just chasing opinions, thankyou

Oh shit, I thought you were Murican, and wrote a reply about getting stuff into there - oops!

I run Kraken FWTW. Very well spoken of here, as you probably know. Have you checked that he still supplies what you want, there have been changes recently?

I bought the Kraken manifold and dump pipe, the rest I sourced through Mania.

I got a reply from Michael who said there was a 2 week turnaround for top mount kit with a 2560R and 4 weeks with full exhaust (I dont need exhaust however as I already have an xforce). So it should be all goods, would you suggest I add anything else to the kit that Kraken doesn't offer? Or even skip the turbo and source a local one if possible? Would you even suggest a 2560R if I eventually plan on building my motor and running flex fuel or should I get something bigger?

What is your use case - fast road, dual-duty, serious track weapon but road registered? What are you planning for the IC/IC plumbing?

Michael will probably not be registered for GST, though his payments platform may be. If not, are you comfortable risking interception at the border and the delays/costs that will result (never had a problem myself, but I hear of some people it happens to).

Sourcing locally, there are less likely to be nasty surprises of that nature, and ready recourse for issues/advice. The only different thing I might do is look at his IC on a turbo-to-IM basis, with the cast turbo mani/dump pipe. Maybe his water/oil lines, but that is easily doable DIY.

It would be a road registered car with the option of being able to do some "spirited driving". Kraken does list VAT does not apply when shipping to Australia however I am also fine to pay import taxes if that's the case as its only 5%. I was looking at doing the T25 Custom Builder aswell as their IC Builder to match a neat build and source everything from them. I already have everything regarding fuel, clutch and whatnot already here ready to install

That's an ok plan.

Yes, we are VAT-exempt. However, I doubt it is 5%, that sounds like customs duty. GST is 10% on cost plus freight, and I am not sure if the 5% would be on the total or just cost. The payment platforms I have used recently have charged 10% on cost plus freight, no customs duty, and mine have not been stopped at the border - at which point (should it happen) i/you will be fresh meat ... . I'd suggest you do up a dummy order, put it in the cart and take it to the payment stage - that will/should show your total with fees, if it is 5% it is definitely not GST. I do that regularly these days when importing so I know the score on GST. before I commit myself to the item.

It would seem that tax does not seem to be included. However with all this out of the way, I could order through Mania as a "middleman" and save that hassle. Mania offers the manifold, downpipe, outlet as a kit, also offers the T25/T28/GT30 - 140mm IC as a kit with piping and BOV and they also sell a complete hose and fittings kit to make life easier. I could order all this through Mania and would just need to look for the turbo itself locally and that way I don't have to worry about anything customs related. I'm happy with waiting for "preorder" items as Mania would need to source the IC kit, and the prices listed on Mania arent overly inflated so im also happy with that. If this was to be the plan, do you have any suggestions on where you think is best to source a turbo from, rather a 2560R or higher such as a 2860R (Or the Pulsar version to save a little bit on costs)
Cheers :)

Mania supplied mine, but you can order off the Pulsar website. It's probably the same IC as mine (PWR), though I bought it as an SE upgrade many moons ago.

Oh what a beautiful car you have there, you've definitely done some wonderful work over the years. With regards to the Pulsar, I was thinking of probably just ordering it through Mania aswell because A. less shipping costs as it'll all be one platform and B. Somehow its still cheaper through Mania than any other store front. The only thing im slightly worried about is whether or not a 140mm IC will be too small for eventually flex fuel with more power.
