Turned up boost, now burning oil

Alright this is my first post, and I know this was very noobish of me to do. I was bored one day here at college and I figured why not turn up the boost on my miata. Well that turned out to be a bad idea because now I am burning oil and I can only assume it is the rings. So basically a rebuild is my only option. I have a personal mechanic that said it would probably have to be bored out to probably a 1.9 to get it to stop burning oil and he said it would cost about 1200 give or take a couple hundred. I don't have a lot of knowledge mechanically wise. I have a 94 miata with an FM1 kit. I bought the car from a guy who did the upgrades to it. I never touched the boost until that day, so I would normally run 10 psi. But me being a 20 year old I decided to turn it up. Bad idea. Now my dilemma: should i try and sell it for some money or save up and have the engine rebuilt? The car has 118000 on it, it was rebuilt at 70000 miles and then the turbo was put on. It has an upgraded clutch, etc.. a lot of upgrades. I just wanted to know what everyone thought of my dilemma, and if so, how much could i sell it for do you think? I know this is a lot to read, sorry if I waste someones time. I just need help.

Put another stock motor in it and leave the boost controller alone this time.

Yip, swap in another stock longblock unless you are actually going to build the motor right. No use going with oem parts on a rebuild, waste of $$$.

Now, was the car tuned for the higher boost levels? What were your air/fuel ratios when you turned up the boost?

:werd: putting in stock motor is way cheaper and greater way to building that mechanical knowledge

Sell the car because you are clearly too dumb to deserve it.

If you want to keep it, you better start reading here.

OK thanks for the advice! I guess I better start looking for a new engine then. And I called fly in Miata and they said the ecu is tuned for 12 psi. But I didn't have a chance to look at the AFR since I backed out of the boost right away
