Things are still moving right along with this build. Most of my updates are on the RX-8 site but I still think this engine has huge potential in an MX-5. Just imagine a boosted Acura NSX engine in your Miata. Found one guy running 15.5psi on this engine's stock internals in a surface drive boat. Impressive.
Here's a bunch of pics for those who were interested. The first pic is the Isuzu 6VD1 piston. It's 1/4" thick in the middle and about 3/4 above the pin. Second pic is a main bearing cap. Third shows all 24 main bolts. Forth shows the main cap in place. Pretty sure that crank isn't going anywhere. Fifth is me holding the complete bottom end with one hand. That last one is the RX-8 trigger on the Isuzu pulley. It's really easy to put a trigger wheel on it. And here's another video for anyone wondering what a freq. MAF sounds like. Unfortunately this engine uses this type of MAF (GM) and will need the FIC-8 piggyback to eliminate it. |
Its a GM maf why do you want to eliminate it?

Because it's unlikely it can measure the airflow I'll be pushing through it. I'll be running forced induction with larger injectors and a piggyback ECU capable of converting the system to speed density. I want to use a blow-off valve as well.
*Assuming this ECU is supported by hp tuners/efi live/sct/diablo. |
I know the ECU can be reprogramed. Alpine did it with their supercharger kit. As far as MY ability to program it, I haven't found anything.
Other then the Alpine kit, the Isuzu v6 didn't have much of a following in the tuner community. If they would have used this engine in an Impulse I'm sure it would have a name by now. I did, briefly, look into using other OEM ECUs from turbo'd cars (3000gt, Supra, etc.) to run this engine but that becomes a wiring headache that's even more of a pain then the 3 ECUs I'll currently be running the engine with. Isuzu also put their trigger wheel in the middle of the crank but, as seen above, that isn't too crippling a factor but still something that would likely need to be addressed when using some other OEM's ECU. |

Just thought I'd throw in a quick update that has something of interest. An RX7 yoke flange fits the Rodeo driveshaft that fits a Rodeo trans flange that fits the Solstice transmission. This is a bolt in for a Miata. Comes in aluminum as well.
