Valve gunk question
I've got the OEM valves and they have a build up of gunk on their topside (facing the cylinder) from the years of use. I sanded and cleaned them up and then it occurred to me that they may have originally had some kind of coating on them. Does anyone know if the OEM valve has some kind of coating (nitride or the like)?
I'm going to push a lot of boost into this engine so I don't want the valves to fail because of my dumbass. |
Nothing will happen, don't worry.
Look at it this way, those valves are steel, and all the surrounding metal is uncoated, bare aluminum. And that aluminum deals with with the heat and pressure and vibrations and more heat... |
Thanks and good point. There are coatings on the stem to lower friction. But I don't believe there is anything appreciable on the valve tops.
