Valve Spring seats with supertech springs

Im currently having some work done on my 1.6 head. I have oversize inlet and exhaust valves to go with higher lift cams and i am about to buy some supertech valve springs.

I notice supertech also make valve spring seats for their springs. Are they are requirement when fitting their uprated springs or are the standard seats compatible with the springs?

Thanks
Mike

I have bought a set of singles and a set of doubles, they both came with seats and retainers, the keepers and seals you need separate.

You use seats with dimensions you need to get the pressures you want.
IIRC the ST seats are optional to place on top of the stock seats. But the best is to make new ones with the exact height your builder wants. The seats are not moving so make them in whatever material that can handle the abuse of the springs (weight is not important).

Thanks for replies guys. Its a little clearer.

I have removed the keepers, springs and valves. How are the original seats removed from the head, or do the new seats sit ontop of the original. I've searched various guides, but can't find anything. Sorry for the stupid question.

Thanks
Mike

There is a thin shim under the OE spring. Use it on top of the ST spring seat. The shim is only used to prevent the spring from digging into the aluminum head.

to remove the old "shim" its usually referred to as a washer. use a magnet. simple

the supertech springs are shorter than the oem springs so the supertech spring seats are needed

install the spring seat with no washer under it. then the spring followed by the retainer. the spring wont dig into the supertech spring seat and the seat wont dig into the head.

Thanks, thats great. It worked really well.

One final question (i hope.) In the center of the small washer/shim. There looks to be a thicker washer which is help in with a clip around the valve guide. Is this the washer or is it part of the head? Does the clip need to be removed to fit the ST seats?

Thansk

leave the circlip in place. the ST seats fit over them
