Volvo oil cooler

2 Attachment(s)
I have an oil cooler from a Volve 740 turbo (same as 240 turbo) laying around. It looks just like a setrab/mocal 13 row oil cooler. From what I can tell setrab was a Volvo OEM supplier. The used Volvo cooler is much cheaper than a new setrab 13 row cooler. Has anyone used a Volvo oil cooler?

The cooler fittings are a strange ball socket fitting. I havnt been able to find AN adapters to fit so I am welding AN male ends onto the OEM line right as it comes off the cooler and use it as an elbow.

I picked one of these up as well.
Word on the street is that these fittings work:

I haven't tried them yet... Let me know if they work! ;)

I doubt a BSP will work since it is still a flat cone seat like an AN just a different angle. The cooler I have has a ball soket for the sealing surface. I will have to add a pic.

I run that exact oil cooler in my car. If you carefully cut away the collars and hose underneath it is a regular barb fitting that takes 1/2" hose just fine. That cooler does a decent job cooling. Even driving in someones draft on a hot day my oil temps are fine in my 140hp supermiata.

I have the exact same cooler in every dimension. It came stock on a '74 Jensen Healey roadster with the 904 Lotus twin cam 2 litre engine. If you take your hose elbows to the hydraulic hose shop they will crimp new hoses on them. Just tell them how long you need them and bring the fittings you want to mate with on the sandwich side.

Don't expect 1/2 inch heater hose to handle motor oil. It is not designed for oil or for pressure above 25psi. Oil is a solvent for many types of rubber and will break it down.

I have some -10 male fittings I was going to weld onto the elbow fitting after I cut the hose barb off. The plan was to run -8 originally but I have all -10 lines and fittings now.

I will cut the hose off first and take a look at the barbed fittings to see what they look like.

Hmmm I was going on this pic from pegasus' website. My fittings look like this, the 30 degree concave male fitting

Here is a picture of the fittings on this oil cooler. Looking at the cooler side it might be a BSP since it is a flat cone on the cooler side (I did not check the angle of the cone yet). The fitting attaching to the cooler does not match the flat cone sealing surface, but has a ball/rounded surface. I have not been able to find a fitting that matches this side.

I get the impression that you're not going to buy those pegasus fittings and try them out for me :D

I'll probably pick some up next month when I start my cooler install and will update with my findings.
