Vtec J32 miata Megasquirt... First one? First drive
Will post a build thread at a later date, completely untuned engine only spent 15 mins so far configuring Ecu etc. Hope you like the project |
Awesome! Sounds amazing, and makes me consider this kit even more!
|
Only just realised there's now a kit available. It's been 6 months since researching j series in miatas. Hopefully puts down some decent numbers in a months time!

I have uploaded my raw camera footage onto photo bucket. 2 folders, Canon camera and iphone photos. Heres a couple, If you want to see more there about 800 photos all up, start with the iphone folder and sort it by "oldest first"
Enjoy. In the beginning https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1413592753 http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/IMG_2082.jpg Progress http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/IMG_2101.jpg It fits... https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1413592753 http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/IMG_2134.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/IMG_1276.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/IMG_1278.jpg http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s...2/IMG_1282.jpg |
Nice man.
I thought Hondas were fairly easily flash tunable. How come megasquirt? Output for gauges? |
Wiring a megasquirt is pretty easy as well. 1 day of wiring and done, tuning is a lot quicker when you have live feedback, also ability to datalog/outputs etc is nice as well
|
Awesome build! I went quickly through your iphone folder... please post a build thread with some explanations of what you were doing in those pictures. Some were pretty obvious, others not so much.
|
I am actually doing this project as part of my Mechanical engineering undergrad thesis, so might just post the report once I'm done, almost ready for dyno, sorted a few electrical issues over the weekend. Initially had plans for making a plenum and tuning the runner lengths but packaging it neatly is proving to be a challenge. Thinking Ill just use the standard manifold and make use of the bottom end power, probably benefit me for hill climbs etc anyway.
|
Nice!
I definitely want to see said build thread! Great job man!

you pretty much wasted 700, you could just go to any honda shop and have the stock ecu for the j32 chipped and theyll dyno same time $350-$400

I am sorry but that simply isn't true. The J series engines do not have the same applications available as the other Honda engines. The only tunable PLUG AND PLAY option for the J32 is AEM the only other options are OEM (untunable) and the various nonspecific ECUs (Megasquirt, Halltech, etc.) To the OP. I would love to see a little more about your wiring. I am trying to wire mine up and I am not quite the wiring wiz that you are. |
c3130654 : Who did your headers? I noticed your NB didn't have to cut the intake manifold in order for it to fit, but all other swaps did, Why??
|
Any updates?
|
I own it now.
Will update when I get around to it. |
Good, update us on that fastback too!
|
Fastback is coming along. The trunk will be opening, just finished designing the hinges. The trunk is getting one half moulded tomorrow. Then the other side done on the weekend. Then I can mould the main section.
|
Any updates from down there?
|
This motor will be going into a friends car. I think the plan is to drift it.
I don't really need another project anyways. I have my track car, took it out on the weekend. Came 7th out of 120 competitors. 5 of them happened to be GT3 (Porsche and Ferrari) race cars practicing for an upcoming event. |
Transmission and Adapter?
