VVT Cam Gear
In process of a 2003 NB2 1.8 Engine rebuild.
I thought I ordered all the gaskets I need, but now I am wondering if I missed one. There is a cover to the inside front of the VVT Intake CamGear. It has a small metal gasket. Some metal gaskets are re-usable and some are not. Does anyone know if this is safe to re-use? If not, what is part number? See pic: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...8d85a20ae6.jpg |
use it, there is no pressure there. if it leaks use RTV, although i would advise against that but it could be a quick fix. send it

I've reused that one before. I think it's just a dust seal as i've never seen oil inside of that cover.

Thank you two...perfect quick advice. I'll clean it up and get her back in place.
Keep going until another blocker :). |
if you really care about the flaking teflon, you cna spray it with copper, it would fill in the gaps :)

Replace the 3 bolts that hold that cap on, the stock bolts are super weak and like to strip easily.

or just be gentle, they don't need that much torque. do not use an impact, no matter how light you think you are doing. |

Some shop before me stripped it out pretty considerably. Soon after I went to my local hardware store and got stainless Philips screws of the same size. It has been wonderful since then. |
