sure, which is why I reckon I have it on right. It's just the number of water passages that are blocked has me a little spooked. Fairly new to these engines.

Yes, but you're missing an alignment dowel. You're also failing by reinstalling an 01-05 head gasket, instead of using a 94-00 BP26 gasket and a reroute.

except for if you put it in upside down and block the oil feed to the head, which a few people have done.

But no, it's not currently upside down.

Can confirm! If you put the gasket on upside down, it will in fact block the oil feed to the head!

I inadvertently tested the lubricity of Lucas assembly lube and can confirm a VVT head with zero oil pressure will idle for about 8 minutes before the intake cam locks up. It is thus my recommendation that all head gaskets be installed correctly for any engines expected to run reliably for more than 8 minutes.

& yes I did notice the alignment dowel missing. It is firmly stuck up in the head!
