VVT head on 94 Escort GT BP, CR?

I have a lowish mileage BP from a 94 Escort GT that I'd like to put into my 1990. Just wondering if anybody knows what CR I might expect if I swapped on a VVT head? I am having a hard time finding a conclusive answer as to the stock CR of the 94 EGT engine..

Also, for a VVT head swap, do I need the 01+ intake manifold or will the 94-97 Miata intake bolt up?

Thanks for the help guys.

The 94-97 manifold will bolt on but the ports and runners don't match, you need a 99-05 manifold (not necessarily a 01-05, a 99-00 will do).

Port matching wont' cut it (long shot)?

A very, very long shot indeed.

You need a NB IM. They're cheap and easy to find.

Also, don't forget that the VVT engines run higher oil pressure to operate the VVT bits. Might want to get a 01-05 oil pump.

The VVT head have the same Comb Chamber volume as the earlier BP heads, so there will be no CR change.

No. The bolt pattern is the same, and the ports should be the same, but the ports are about 3/4" higher on the head in relation to the mounting studs, IIRC. You can modify an NA manifold to fit, but then the stock fuel rail won't fit. Not worth the trouble. Just find a '99-00 or an '01+ manifold.

Roger that, will need 99+ manifold. I haven't seen any talk of the Square top manifold's lately.. if I have to buy one it sounds like it makes sense that I would go that route. Or maybe I should be looking at a modified Honda manifold, anybody actually geared up to build these yet?

Yeah quite a few people, a guy is actually running one locally, but he doesn't post on here. You just gave to cut one up. Brain so nicely pointed out to me that Levnubbin and also Splittime I think did it for his 1.6, and it has been done a few times on a 1.8.
