Water temp sensor placement

I have an Innovate water temp gauge and I am trying to figure out if I should place the sender unit in the heater hose. Can someone steer me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance for any help given to me.

Well, it really comes down to what are you trying to measure?

Stock coolant temp sensor is right out the back of the engine, right after it comes out of the engine- coolant should be hottest here. With that in mind, you probably wanna place it somewhere near the engine outlet so you will see highest temps.

What year car/motor is it? Are you doing away with the stock gauge? If so use that location as there is no point in having two gauges for the same thing. If your still useing the factory ECU you will need to keep the stock sensor in the mix as removal might not make it happy.

2 different sensors(on the NA's at least). The ECU one is the larger one and the dash one is the one wire sensor in the side of the rear outlet.

I have a 1993 so a 1.6. I've been told I cannot put the sender in place of the stock sender due to threading issues. I also have Megasquirt hooked up and the stock ecu out of the car.

So just put the sensor inline in one of the coolant routes coming out of the back of the engine?
