WB sensor and Racing Beat optimum location
2 Attachment(s)
My 94-97 RB header bung seems to be in wrong location for the WB sensor as it points down and likely will be too hot in the provided location. I am looking for suggestions from others where to install - people with 94-97 header - where did you weld the wide band sensor bung? Is it better near the flange ? I don't have the car now to check and fit and so doing some thinking where would be a good place to weld a new bung.

That looks like it was intended for narrowband sensor which you would retain unless you got a standalone. I have mine on a turbo application directly below shifting turret.
Also you could wrap the header to help with heat management. What application is the car? Street? Track? |
probably no issue there.

track car only , no cat and no narrowband. Waiting on DIY to release 97 MS3.
If you think farther from header is fine, since I am redoing the front pipe of the muffler that mates up to the header than i have a good location as shown on the pic. That's roughly would be in front of the CAT aid I was running one. |
You want it to stay warm, so no, that is in no means too close to the head. By a long shot. It is, according to the sensor instructions, at the wrong angle however. I have installed widebands using that location, and it is very convenient for access, and they have lasted. I have also re-welded roughly in the same location, only facing straight up. Obviously supposedly better, but more work, and less access.

wrong angle because it's -10 degrees or more and may see condensation ? Given the pipe is slopes down, I think I'll try this. I don't want to put more holes in the header if I don't have to.

condensate is not going to pull on a vertical run...

i was thinking the offset angle on the RB bung location should be ok as its inside a vertical - I think you just confirmed it. Thank you Curly and Brain
