What is the best fuel injector cleaner?

Besides actually sending the injectors out to be cleaned, what is the best fuel injector cleaner/additive and why? Techron? Lucas?

y8s 01-14-2010 03:53 PM

hey I wonder if you could drop them into an injector cleaner bath in an ultrasonic cleaner and get excellent results...

btw, heard reports that people like the BG44K stuff.

TurboTim 01-14-2010 03:57 PM

Ha. Actually I bought Meg one of those to clean her rings, that is still in the box after several years. I doubt she'd notice.

I already put the 20 gal Techron stuff in my subaru this morning, just wondering what else people think.

I'd imagine that you could get a decent clean on them. It would be even better if you built some sort of stand alone injector driver to open and close the injectors while they were getting a bath ( a modified megasquirt/stim combo perhaps? )

miataspeed2005 01-14-2010 04:28 PM

You could just use a 12v batery to open and close them

Duckie_uk 01-14-2010 04:43 PM

And maybe try to drive the cleaning solution through them backwards.

fill the tank with water and put the injectors in a separate glass container with the cleaner in it and sit that in the water tank.

note that those things caution against flammable liquids because the vibrations can sometimes ignite the liquid (energy + vapor = uhoh).

that might damage them... better to just hook them to a stereo :)
say a 3000 hz sinewave with a P-P voltage of 12V?

dustinb 01-14-2010 05:46 PM

I've used the Lucas fuel treatment before and it seems to work fine.

Efini~FC3S 01-14-2010 07:55 PM

seafoam?

aznDragonX 01-14-2010 08:06 PM

Tim,
I was told by my muscle car buddies that Berryman B-12 Chemtool is the best. I used it on my Miata and works great. Just make sure you use up the whole tank of gas in one week.

JasonC SBB 01-14-2010 09:49 PM

12V to open hi impedance injectors, and 3V to open lo impedance ones.

I think that additives poured into the tank to clean injectors are snake oil. But that's just me.

Bit of gentle warming should really help the stuff work ;)

Ehhh turns out the cylinder in question only has 85psi compresson. Oil squirted down sparkplug hole doesn't change it and pressurized air into sparkplug seems to be coming out exhaust. Sounds like a dead exhaust valve. This is on my subaru. Still bone stock & 96k miles. :vash:

Sorry to hear about your Subaru. What model is it and is it an 07? The reason I ask is I've heard bad things about the 07's with compression?

DOHCPanther 01-25-2010 05:10 AM

3M found in O'Reilly's

It's an 05 outback XT. same as a legacy gt. I plan to start taking it apart Friday hopefully.

I tried this stuff too, thanks Matt. ~$20 a can, damn.
