If it is a off the shelf standard size JE piston you can buy just one. It may cost 60-100 bucks, pricey but it would 100% better then putting in a questionable piston.

Right... Except you don't track your ****.

I'd be willing to bet that Savington will track his built motor that he doesn't have yet before you track your ****.

I'm on the track on 5/22. I haven't been in my apartment for more than 4 consecutive days since April, 2008.

Damn, thats not very encouraging lol. Maybe the crower rods I've got will hold up fairly well.

You running 9.0:1 CR on your setup hustler?

Exactly. He's gonna track his car with a built motor before you will track your ****.

Honestly? It is a time bomb. Getting a built shortblock into my car is priority 1 right now.

So are we still on stock rods blowing up, or has anyone had a failure with after market upgraded rods yet? I know these were GTX, so a bit better than factory. Until I can get a backup engine built, I may turbo mine and leave it low, like 8-10psi on a 2560 or equal size. "Keep it under 225, stay alive". Even then I would still be spending most of my time driving with the radio down listening for strange noises waiting for failure to show its ugly face.

Sorry it took me so long to get a reply in. I was at the gym repping-out 700+ on deads, 500+ on squats, and pushing 500+lb. Then I had to go out with "the twins" again because they just got back in-town from a Victoria's Secret shoot. It kind of sucks because I can never drive my Enzo or Veyron since they're 2-seaters, so i had to pick up another Quattroporte to haul that ***** around. So you better hope and pray that when I get to California I've been laid recently because you DO NOT WANT TO SET ME OFF, bro, seriously. Be cool because I do not want to have to put someone else through a wall bro.

JE's website says they only make 9.0:1 pistons for our motors. Do you guys think i should rock these in my next motor and just replace this one piston? There are some scuffs on the inside from the rod tapping it which continues to make me worry even more.

what does someone do with 3 good pistons?

I'd call JE and see if you can buy a replacement piston.

As an FYI - We have not had ANYONE break one of our M-Tuned/ETD Rods.

IIRC we have 2 sets left in stock!

Sorry for the shameless plug..

Mark, i plan on using your rods. I called JE today, they are custom pistons so i would have to order 4 or more. Unless anyone wants a set of JEs im fucked.

No one will make only 1 piston, it all comes down to fixturing and manufacturing. You can order a set of 2, but there is a small upcharge. I would recommend picking up the shelf parts at 9:1 compression as that would be perfectly fine for a turbo application.

My engine has not failed yet after its build. Its has abut 5 hours of dyno time and 2.5 dr1ft events on it. Running 17.6 psi the 1st event and then 17 the next 1.5..

I think most of you will be just fine..

Robello racing built the motor, i bought it pre built from them and was told they were 9:1 pistons.

WTF do i do with 3 good JE pistons? Should i contact JE and get another to put into a new motor or scrap them all?

Edit: The motor stayed running for no more than 3-5 seconds once the rod craped out. I assume the other three are still good.
i would go back to them and be like wtf i want a new built motor or my money back because thoes are not 323 gtx rods. they should build you a block with the right **** because rods are the first thing to go in a miata block. so get your money back or have them build you a motor worth your time and trouble aka get them to build you a fm stroker motor

wow. I thought Robello was somewhat respectable; apparently they're crooks. I'd leave this **** off the internet until you talk to them. I'd expect nothing short of a compensation for the amount required for replacement parts and machining from another shop, considering the failure point is a duplicitous consideration and your desire to avoid further incidence with this company. You may also want to consider legal action.

Tell me you have a work order on paper. If so, I'd take this to court for replacement cost with the proper parts, dealership labor rates, and legal costs. If this allegation is true, its going to be a sad day for the shop. I'm certain the SM backlash-threat may convince them to make-good on their deceit. This is why I picked-up my motor with the head and pan off the motor.

Please, tell me you have a work-order or invoice.
