What under hood temps do y'all see?
Street or track - ever measured? Trying to get some data points.

I don't know about anything on the cool side of the bay. I imagine slightly cooler than the engine and radiator themselves, but not by a lot. Much of the air under there has come through the radiator. I'd guess generally about 20-40 degrees cooler than the engine and radiator, depending upon ambient temps.

Haven't done any ambient temp testing. Melted several brake reservoirs,throttle cables, etc. but that was all from radiant turbo heat. As long as the the air intake is ducted/sealed, the ambient on the intake side of the bay doesn't matter much.

I'm thinking about max operating temps for a EBC valve. Most seem to be rated for 140 or 150F, which seems too low to have in the engine bay, even on the cold side with heat shielding.

When I bought my car, the previous owner had installed a hella trick "cold air intake" with a big filter in place of the factory filter box. The IAT sensor was just kinda hanging out close to the driver side headlight, so it was basically reading under hood temperature. If I remember correctly, it was reading about 145 on my OBD2 scanner after idling for a few minutes.

I've yet to see a mac valve fail unless someone is silly enough to mount it like a couple inches from the hotside parts.
run a proper shield over and around the mani/dp and don't even worry about the rest *edit: if they were really cooking at 122F then 99.99% of people on this site running one would have reported repeated failures by now |
My EBC valve is mounted by the driver's side shock tower, and surprisingly is one of the things I have not melted with radiant heat... so there's that.

I had two EBC solenoids fail from being too close to turbo. I mounted the third inside my cold air box.
