Why should I not do this? NOS - big turbo spool

This seems to make complete sense to me. Why not trigger a small shot at WOT and low MAP to kick a big turbo in the ass and spool it up quick?

Comp Cams 82218 ZEX Turbo Nitrous Kit

u should do it.

miata2fast Oct 25, 2009 04:40 PM

What will you be using the car for? Do you plan to compete? Some classes of drag racing only alow for one power adder. At least the ones most people can afford to race in.

If it is just toy, why the hell not. I will warn you, nitrous does not like it if you break the rules, and it will punish you severely if you do. Get someone that has some experience to help you.

Sounds like a great idea, but you would want to set it up properly. Go with a wet injection, maybe a 50 shot. You also want to make sure that it doesn't start spraying in WOT when your at 6000 RPM, because you're probably going to blow up something. ZEX and NOS both make switches that track which gear you are in, and the rpm, so you can have it only spray at specific times. I would probably tell it to spray at 2000, end at 3500, and you should be fine. I've worked on two different nitrous only setups, and they both worked great. It's just filling up the bottle that sucks.

That was MarkP's plan.

2000 rpm is too low to be spraying nitrous. That is one of many rules you better obey. 3500 and above is what I would do. Maybe higher. Most people that use nitrous and turbos combined, use the boost level as the deterimining factor as to when you shut off the nitrous.

In the town I grew up in there was a import tuner shop that used nitrous for this. A quick shot that increased spool and it also sprayed onto the intercooler to cool it down very quickly and reduce incoming air temp. They were into drag racing though. If it's for just a street car, then I think there are probably better things to spend money on.

kaisersoze Oct 25, 2009 07:37 PM

Well what are you going to use it for. It doesn't really make sense for drag racing because you really shouldnt experience lag. For general street driving it would be a pain and probably expensive.
If you want something for track/autocross(cant think of where it would be legal) just get an ECU like Autronic or Motec that supports anti lag. Gets pretty tough on your turbo and exhaust parts and is noisy as hell but probably safer for your motor and efficient.

He has a gt30. If he sprays 3500 and above the turbo is pretty much already spooled up by then. Kinda pointless then. IMO

It's always a plus if done right. Ive always used wet kits, i like the idea of being able to control the fuel being added with its own seperate solenoid, rather then depending on a computer to do the richening for me. Turbo cars will always make more power then the n/a cars. For instance, a 50 shot on a 250hp turbo car will make right around 215ish hp. Where as on a 250hp n/a car a 50 shot will only yield about a 40 to 45 hp gain. My 2 cents!

Full_Tilt_Boogie Oct 25, 2009 08:17 PM

did this on my buddies turbo civic, works exteremly well with his big turbo, it makes the turbo spool almost instantly, the only problem is you cant engage the nitrous below 3k rpm,...

hustler Oct 25, 2009 09:15 PM

this is retarded shit. Seriously, just get a reasonably sized turbo and don't expect it to make 20psi at idle.

18psi Oct 25, 2009 10:12 PM

My buddy uses 2 stage nitrous to help spool his turbo. Here is his car:

all that trouble and then he sets up the nitrous like that...

neogenesis2004 Oct 25, 2009 10:24 PM

What do you mean like that, it looks nicely done. With a turbo that huge, what does he have to hide?

What's wrong with the way he set up the nitrous?
