Why you don't want me documenting my build!

I'm putting the motor back together. Just helped a customer and walked back to my warehouse where I'm working on it. I actually shocked myself. Jesus I'm a slob.

This picture should pretty well explain why I can't and shouldn't be documenting anything to share. Pictures like this will keep neat freaks, like Curly, up at night.

Caution: If you are ---- retentive, work in the machining industry, keep your garage and/or engine bay clean enough to eat off of view at your own risk.
you've been warned!

Hah, I love it. Not necessarily the way I would go about assembling a shortblock, but if it gets it done and holds together, more power to you. It's too bad you don't live a bit closer. We could wallow in our cumulative miata filth together

Notice the complete lack of proper tools except a $29 HF torque wrench.

At least I'm keeping a good steady buzz going from the brake cleaner and open acetone container I'm using to clean parts before they go in!

I'm really hoping to run at Pacific a time or two this season and meet all you Seattle guys.

Wheres that barfing smiley....

Get that thing on the assembly stand before you break your back. Why you're not using it yet is beyond me. Think of it this way: it'll free up the floor space under the block for you to put more crap!

Tomorrow is my last day at work, call/pm if you want some help. My time is free. Dear lord, I'd even come over just to clean. Knowing that mess is there keeps me up at night.

You need drugs........and a dumpster.

chriscar 03-25-2010 04:42 PM

I am slowly working on an engine build and my garage floor looks a lot like that.

Machismo 03-25-2010 04:59 PM

Funny - when mine is organized, I can't find a damn thing.

miataspeed2005 03-25-2010 05:20 PM

You dirty filthy whore

curly 03-25-2010 05:20 PM

He DOES have an engine stand.

cueball1 03-25-2010 05:24 PM

I have an engine stand! I'm just used to working on my knees.:giggle:

Checked gap on all the bearings, assembled pistons, rings, rods and got them all in the block and torqued so far today. Now reading up on how to assemble the rest of the bottom end. Should have the bottom end together by the end of the day.

Tomorrow I start reading up on head work. The Burgess Gollan cylinder head building book finally showed up today.

That's very different from my mess. 1. Mine you can't see the floor 2. I'm still spotless, dressed in slacks and a polo shirt!

For cleaning the carbon off the valves, Mobius seemed to think my impromptu drill with a wire wheel held in a bench vise wasn't quite up to snuff. I thought it worked great plus it didn't cost anything! I may be white, live and work in an affluent area but I can ghetto fab with the best of them.

I have got see if I have the pics from my first engine swap anywhere. Imagine an entire garage like that.

Dude, put it on a stand. I have two blocks in my living room right now and yesterday I put one on there to free up space. It took like 20 minutes, including bolting the stand together. Your back will have plenty of pain when you have to start dropping it in and hooking everything up. Plus putting consistent TQ on stuff is worlds easier on a stand. And it looks cool.

FRT_Fun 03-26-2010 01:44 PM

Sorry for monster picture....

I usually clean up everything at the end of the day. But throughout the day it get's pretty messy.

cueball1 03-26-2010 01:59 PM

I love pics that look like the car had an alien explode from it's chest. Glad I'm not the only guy here that doesn't label every washer and maintain hospital operating room cleanliness.

Now if I could just find the rear main seal housing....

levnubhin 03-26-2010 02:07 PM

I hate all of you garage owning queers!
