wiseco guys

Did anyone running wiseco's gap the rings? Or did you just leave them as is? Im planning on checking the gaps and making any adjustment but just kind of wondering what everyone else did. I mean if the machine shop did the bore to the exact specs that wiseco says then in theory there should be no need for any adjustment.

i had my machine shop do the assembly on mine so iono but i would like to know as well becouse im gonna take my motor apart eventaly to add my mtuned rods and billet oilpump gears(when i actualy buy them)

Mine needed some shaving, the top compression rings were way too tight.

magnamx-5 11-26-2009 02:18 PM

so what where the specs you went to martinez?

MartinezA92 11-26-2009 02:20 PM

I can't say I remember, I just remember the top rings being around .008" too tight. A tiny half sheet of specs came with the pistons, and that half sheet is long gone.

you have to gap them, cylinder walls vary. very very very few rings are made to size. i had to gap mine. make sure you have them square in the bore and set down about 1-2 inches. use a ring filing tool for bring it to a shop. the gaps need to be right or you will get blow by or scar your cyl walls

Yikes. Dunno if this matters for stock pistons and block, but I didn't gap my rings either time I replaced them. First time the block was honed, second time it wasn't touched.

most oem parts are pretty damn close. its diffrent with aftermarket, because oem tends to stick with one set of specs. when your building a race engine you build it to suit your needs. so by making the rings with a smaller gap and allowing you to grind it to your spec, you can blueprint the engine to your standards. make sense?? i think an oem rebuild you would be fine. i know i havent had to gring any honda oem rebuilds ive done

+1, you ALWAYS need to check the gap. Easiest way I've found to get them the right distance/square in the bores is to just use one of the pistons upside down... I push them in to about the oil ring groove (on freshly honed blocks with no wear).

def. no reason to not check and adjust the gap on an engine build. if someone's too lazy to do that they have no buisness building it in the first place.

Done, everything checked out perfect, the machine shop went over the bore by a one one-thousandth, so i figured they'd be ok. Perfect fit, everything cranks nice by hand, no rough spots, build thread coming soon!!! Just gathering a lot of pictures.
