Question The starting of booost

hi ladys and gents, starting the build of boost love the car but she needs a bit of a kick up the *** to get going hence the turbo, I have a td04 with manifold and downpipe , oil catch can, intercooler and piping and (hopefully) a working greddy management to run it plug and play(that's what they all say), currently none of it is on the car just waiting for the time to put it all together, theres a million and one questions but looking at the turbo just wondering where people set the wastegate on these td04's I only plan to run 6 psi its a 1996 1.8 so do I set the wastegate to start to open at 6psi , any response would be welcome cheers all.

You need to use periods, complete sentences and paragraphs.

Ok so here is the next help. Go read all of the stickies in all of the different sections of this forum. A majority of your questions now, and in the future will be answered there. Some of the stuff is old, but you will see the overlap when you read them all, and a few build threads.

It is my suspicion that you have never correctly turbo charged a car before, so it is imperative that you read as much as humanly possible before you buy anything. Unless you just have imperial tones of cash to waste, read, research, read, read read!

Happy forum reading for the next three months!

hahaha

your bang on ive never turbo charged a car before, and I seem to read and reread a lot of useful info but sometimes getting the info is hard ,

I don't have cash to burn and I was fortunate enough to buy a kit that was almost complete so its the little bits taking the time.

cheers for reply

Aaron

Start a build thread, and post up the pictures of what you have purchased. We want to make sure you are starting off on the right foot, not building around some turds.

Question The building of booost

hi ladys and gents
starting to build my 1996 1.8 na turbo , love the car but she needs a kick up the *** to get moving.
I was lucky enough to get hold of a nearly complete kit including td04 turbo , intercooler and piping , greddy emanage blue, oil lines and water lines , and oil catch can, and dump pipe.
theres a million and one questions to ask as its my first build , but I'm sat looking at the turbo and only fancy running 5-6 psi first question when I set the waste gate do I set it to begin opening at 5 psi?
added some pics, cheers for the replies and apologies for anything wrong I'm new to the forum world
Aaron

any time a newb asks questions about turbo charging I feel like the path to power thread is spot on. If you read it thoroughly it will give you a good idea of things to search for. Also if you read through a lot of the build threads (as ryan said) you'll get a good idea of what direction to head in. You have a pretty decent stash of parts already but there are things like the coolant reroute that I considered mandatory... anyway welcome and gl.

oh yeah pro tip for searching... use google.to search the forum for example if you want to search for td04 posts then go to google and search for "td04 :www.miataturbo.net"

I came up with https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...-choose-24838/ as the first subject in search and that thread probably has some good stuff to get you thinking. So as ryan suggested . Start a build thread with a little story and some pics of your sweet ride..... then post your plans and all your parts. After you have researched and think you have it, update it. people will be like "omg u sux read wtf go ahead and fail with that setup." Then that is where you go oh thank you for your kind suggestions and search more. Or maybe someone wasn't on their period that day MAYBE clean your boo boo and help you back on your bike w/ training wheels. The guys around here seem to be more about seeing people do stuff to their cars then talk about it. Nobody likes discussing the same things over and over to a bunch of pea-brained rejects day dreaming.

when wanting to search a specific site for info just type the thing you want to search for and then :www.websiteaddress.com and you will get a much quicker more effective search.

I merged your two threads. They're redundant and in wrong sections. Don't make another new one please.

Ok, so what it looks like you have, is a home made "kit type thing". The manifold was made to fit that strange flange on the turbo. It isn't commonly used, and will ad difficulty if you ever want to change the turbo. Same with the downpipe, it will require custom built exhaust. You won't be able to just order it. The E Manage is poo. You need MS3 or better, if you plan on keeping this car for a while, and don't want to screw with engine management the entire time you own it.

I don't know how much you are into cars, how long you see yourself keeping this one or what you want to do with it. Understand this, boost is addictive. 6 psi will be ok for about two weeks. Then it's 10,14,17 etc...
Not to discourage you or make you upset, but the stuff you bought is a perfect example of buying before researching. You can use it, but it will be a little more work and be a bit inferior to what you could have.

Ya, I couldn't remember the name, but I recognized the strange turbo choice, manifold and downpipe.

It's the second mx5 I've had the first was a drifter loved it but 2 underpowered , heavily into cars and bikes been a Vw main dealer tech for 9 years so this build is very new to me and is something we never do so its a bit of a learning curve , the kit in question was cheap and I brought on a wim after an mx5 goes past me every morning with all the mandatory noises for an mx turbo , cheers for the replies and il carry on reading
