Butterfly Brace Measurements

Hi,

A friend of mine wants to buy the Frame Rail/Butterfly Brace to put on his 86 Dodge Omni GLH. He is very handy (He put a SRT-4 motor/trans in the car) so he would have no trouble modifying it to fit.

Would anyone be able to tell me the measurements of this brace? I guess width/length of rail braces and distance in between? I know I could go out and measure my miata but it's cold and wet here lol.

Thanks for any help,
Scott

OK apparently I put this in the wrong spot. Can someone tell me where to post this or, even better, move it?

Have you called and asked FM? That would get you a quick answer.

If your friend wants a deal tell them to check out the 01+ factory butterfly brace. Bolts in the exact same spots. Ugly as hell but who gives a fuck if it is on a dodge. Albeit a cool dodge :). Fm prob has those too but other miata salvage shops r prob cheaper

Thanks for the advice but I think I will contact FM for measurements like shuiend suggested. I'd rather have him buy it from FM and support an awesome company.

Yeah, I don't think he really cares about looks. He just wants to strengthen the chassis as much as possible since he's putting in a Precision SC61 turbo in as we speak!

Nice turbo. More details on his turbo setup? Built motor? Pics!

Here is a thread from the turbo dodge site.

It's actually a 2.4 out of a stratus because the accessories were in better locations than the srt-4 motor. It's fully built and balanced. Ported head, water/meth injection, NEW srt-4 trans, custom driveshafts, etc.

It's been cleaned up a lot. The hardest part was fabricating the new mounts and the custom axles. He also made his own intake manifold out of aluminum tube. He's using a FAST stand-alone which he wired and tuned himself.

He is all about the sleeper look and even went as far as to put stock seats back in. No one is ready for a nearly stock looking 86 omni that runs 11.7 on drag radials (forget exact mph but it was around 125). Traction is a problem at speeds under 70 even with the drag radials. Really just a beast of a car! IIRC it was dynoed at 425whp/475wtq. Weight is around 2400lbs.

So yeah, now he's installing a bigger turbo and hopefully adding around 100 whp.

The stock butterfly brace does not bolt in the exact same spots. Please note that these two pictures have the car going in opposite directions.

Keep in mind that the butterfly is fairly closely tied to the shape of the car. Close enough that we have different part numbers for the NA and NB, despite the fact that the cars are very, very similar underneath. But in case someone wants to stuff one under something weird:

Distance between the inside edge of the rails: 28.5" (with maybe 1/2" of adjustment)
Length of the rails: 43"
Width of the rails: 2.75"
