Clutch kit

do yall not have any good clutches for the 1.6? Do you have to upgrade to the 1.8 with a flywheel? Thanks

Braineack 08-04-2009 08:13 AM

FM Stage I + 1.8L Flywheel = great 1.6L clutch.

FRT_Fun 08-04-2009 11:13 AM

The FM Clutch is very good. I have it and love it.

Keith@FM 08-04-2009 02:08 PM

Braineack is correct - use a 1.8 flywheel and clutch. Since the 1.8 unit holds more torque than the 1.6 and the former was only used for 4 years as opposed to 11, we only carry 1.8 sizes. It helps us keep costs down.

Used flywheel ok or do I need the happy meal?

Keith@FM 08-05-2009 11:26 AM

Any flywheel in the 1.8 size will do the job. The FM flywheel is lighter than the stock piece, but that's a different decision to make.

is the 13.5 good for the street? I don't want to go up in weight I would rather stay the same or go down a little not a lot though. It's a everyday driver that I enjoy taking to the track on the weekends

i use XACT Flywheels | Products ~ Advanced Clutch Technology® - Performance Clutches

Perfect for me

edit: 10.4 lbs

My Flywheel is 10.3lbs, I have had no issues in drivability.

UrbanSoot 08-06-2009 05:28 AM

+1

Unless you are planning on making a ton of power a 1.6 setup is fine.

Braineack 08-06-2009 10:12 AM

I had an 8lbs JUN flywheel, I ended up removing it.

Which I have now. I love it. Unless we go with the new 949 stuff it should be following me to the new motor.

MiataMX5 08-06-2009 09:19 PM

Why did you remove it? I am scared to put one to light. I dont want to tear anything else up right now.

gospeed81 08-07-2009 08:33 AM

I'm at ~200whp and use a 1.6L flywheel with the ACT Xtreme clutch setup.

It hold perfectly fine, and saved me finding a 1.8L flywheel. I also got the clutch used and CHEAP. I should be good for well over 250whp.
