Default Why no Tapatalk?

Apologies if it's already been asked and addressed. I took a quick scan through threads in the section and didn't see it.
I use it just about everyday to browse other forums and was wondering why not?

Yeah it would be nice to have. This is the only forum I frequent that doesn't have tapatalk. Even if I was a subscriber, the mobile browser would still be nothing compared to tapatalk.

Another mazda forum I'm on all the time recently had a thread where the owner complained about the cost of tapa and said that he planned to kill it - outrage ensued.....

Considering how easy it already is to browse this (and any other) forum on a phone, I wouldn't want to pay a larger subscriber fee (or whatever other price) for Tapatalk.

it's a one time purchase for the user (apple app store or android app market)
the site had to pay to provide the service
tapatalk >>>>> looking at any forum on any phone browser

I'm with you on this.

Tapatalk seems like a nice application, but I'm not willing to pay for it to post.

This subject has been covered a few times:
https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...light=tapatalk
https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...light=tapatalk

We have a mobile version for site supporters here:
https://www.miataturbo.net/mobile/

Tapatalk white label is a fortune. If MT gets Tapa then I need to get it say for the next forum. In the end it has the potential to become a $8,000+ venture for me for a 3rd party product that will likely become a pain in the ***.

We currently run a mobile them here (check with your phone), it was free IS better IMO than say the one we currently run.

Now of course this is all just my vibe on it. I have read TT reviews from other forum admins who have said its the biggest POS they have ever had to deal with, so....

For now we hold out.

PS. falcon, i couldnt see what you wrote as you did not have supporter tag.

Rick, just curious, why are you referring to the white label version? We activated the free version on our local Miata forum, works just fine. The members who want to use it skip a couple of 20 oz. drinks and pay the one-time $3.00 fee for the app for their phones, those who don't want it use the available mobile theme. I like browsing via tapatalk since quite a few forums I'm on use it, keeps most everything in one simple to use app, I think that's probably why others are asking for it too.

No avatar no care!

I have yet to try out a taptalk site, maybe I'll try it on clubroadster, but honestly our mobile version is easy enough for me.

Because increased operating costs never get passed on, right?

The issue is tapatalk free = you pay for the app. And you pay them but I or even say scott need to maintain the tapatalk install and any upgrades etc = 3rd party source code updates which if you have dealt with vBulletin and 3rd party apps / licenses etc over the past 5 years you would know it sucks and becomes a mess. It would become a prime example of why we moved away from photopost and vBgallery to inhouse albums.

Old Gallery vs. Inhouse Gallery
Between those galleries I can say the inhouse is limited by features where as the 3rd party was pretty stacked. However, the 3rd party stuff was also a reason we got hacked in the past. It also requires license renewal for updates.

Whitelabel TT which I prefer means you dont pay as a user and the cost is eaten up by me. But if I tell scott we are installing it, i have others who will say where is our copy and then it begins.

The current mobile theme was around $130-150 USD. I added this mobile theme due to demand for a mobile theme and truthfully its usage is very limited not only here, but on other sites. I also dislike that it IS 3rd party and requires maintenance and updates. The theme here I prefer which is free and style related which is in Brains and my comfort zone ( I am certainly no dev.).

Hope that helps

Posted before reading the whole thread. doh.

Some of us really like tapatalk, but I can understand your reasons for not wanting to add it. Still, there are 16 other Miata forums that have it enabled. I think all are running the free version. That's gotta mean something.

Its not free to users so I wont install it right now. If i were to do anything TT related it would be white label. If I do white label here to the tune of $1000 I need to be prepared to spend that elsewhere as well. Sadly, there are other people who might think they deserve it over you on their forums.

We offer a mobile version as is, i surf the site and dont even use the mobile version with my phone.

Tim and Gary are awesome.

How many users are asking for it? I see a handful. Honestly, if 800 sign in asked I would say the call MUST be answered or atleast really considered (lol, i dont want the 3rd party app.. haha) But really, **** just complicates stuff.

aside from the whitelabel costs, I am not interested in supporting 3rd party apps. It is a pain. Be it a free pluggin or paid, during times of migration and change things happen. I am not interested in waiting on dev's to answer why **** doesn't work when we made a simple change or whatever the reason. I did explain that above though.

The current free pluggin has 46 pages of comments and input to the pluggin. I am very very familiar with using 'free' applications as well as paid and I am most comfortable where we are currently.

Perhaps, speculation

*sigh*. If i enable it here I have to do it everywhere. Then I must support multiple forums with TT. I will not pass the cost to the user or potentially to new users. I do not want to support 3rd party appz which is my primary cry. While Scott is very capable of fixing some stuff, not all forums have admins with those abilities. Both scott and I are not developers.

TT was and I am not sure if it still is going through revisions and changes. I do not want to support changes x14 and or worse across different platforms.
One guy commenting on a thread said he had to do 4 updates in 2 months to the package, now if that is a package that consists of 1 file or 25 I have no idea, i just dont want to have to deal with that crap right now when we are already providing people with a solution (one that barely gets usage I will add).

Another pluggin (file) will be required which is the nag remove for
"Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk".
The current mobile theme upon install went through 6 revisions to get where it is. I stopped asking for changes because it became a mess.

There has been posts on some of admin type forums I frequent that TT has been a reason for vulnerabilities, perhaps, unproven who knows but its been said by people with real forums similar in size to MT.

And for those who want TT there are those who want Forum Runner. Its impossible to please everyone so i figure please none and be happy not having to fix crap that breaks.

So for now, answer is no. If it becomes yes it will be white label.

if you spoil me with drinks and ribs and perhaps shower me with rims and tires and such, then yes foe sho!!!

When I use our mobile site, I send from Zack Morris's phone. It's pretty cool, he let me borrow it.
