"new posts" button

is there anyway to make this button/link work a bit better?
most other sites won't care if i close my browser and then reopen it later.
when i use the "new posts" button on mt.net, it shows me all new posts since my last visit, but nothing before my last visit.
so for example, if i don't open the random pic thread for three days, ideally i'd like the little blue arrow to take me to the posts from three days ago, not from my last visit (in this example, let's say this was 6 hours ago)

i don't think i'm explaining this very well.
i've talked to aaronc7 and cpolly69 about this since we were all on previous forums together.

fyi, the link i'm talking about is this - https://www.miataturbo.net/search.php?do=getnew

as an alternative, this link sort of works, but doesn't give me the blue arrow to take me to the oldest new-to-me post - https://www.miataturbo.net/search.php?do=getdaily

So you want it to show Unread posts... not New posts.

So you are asking for a new button?

phillyb 08-25-2011 11:49 PM

if you want to think about it that way, sure.
all other sites i visit that have a "new posts" button function as an "unread posts" button.

cpolly69 08-26-2011 07:09 AM

Several other sites I visit do function in this manner and I kind of wish it was changed as well. I didn't really understand the whole difference until Philly explained it. I just thought the new posts button had something wrong with it. Seemed like sometimes I was getting all the new posts and other times Im getting just a few of them.....

triple88a 08-27-2011 06:05 PM

Unread posts indeed would be nice especially if it can be made default setting for the user cp>subscribed posts.

Savington 08-27-2011 06:17 PM

I like seeing the new posts myself. I don't really care to revisit most of the threads I've seen in the past. Maybe two buttonz?

icantthink4155 08-27-2011 06:47 PM

A few sites Im on I use that button exclusively.

Braineack 08-27-2011 09:17 PM

(zack morris's phone)

I think I can make unread show up after new posts when you hit button.

triple88a 08-27-2011 09:18 PM

Any luck with unread-subscribed also so the ones in the user cp cant disappear if the browser crashes/porn pops up and overwrites MT... You know common IE crap...?

that'd be great!

aaronc7 08-31-2011 01:12 PM

+1 would like this as well. sometimes i hit new posts then accidently close the window or something, come back a few mins later and only like 2 posts show up when i click new posts

Braineack 08-31-2011 01:18 PM

just been too lazy to implement.

it'll happen. Basically the mod is that all your new posts will still show up when you click the button, but once you get through them, any unread post will show up as well.

phillyb 08-31-2011 01:31 PM

awesome!

aaronc7 08-31-2011 01:34 PM

thank you

Braineack 08-31-2011 01:39 PM

try it now.

phillyb 08-31-2011 01:44 PM

looks good. though when i clicked on the blue arrow for this thread, it brought me to the first post.
did you clear the board's cache in doing this mod?

Braineack 08-31-2011 01:45 PM

yeah probably did.

phillyb 08-31-2011 01:50 PM

ok, nonetheless thank you sir!

rleete 08-31-2011 02:08 PM

Holy shit. In spite of visiting here at lunch, I log on to find 18 pages of unread posts.

Braineack 08-31-2011 02:16 PM

it'll clear after 10 days. that's the plan at least.

shlammed 08-31-2011 03:02 PM

i just said: mark all threads as read.

gospeed81 08-31-2011 03:08 PM

Everything is new now!!!!

yeah. like brain said, this mod probably cleared the boards' cache

Braineack 08-31-2011 03:23 PM

well it used to go by session.

if you logged in, hit new, everything that came up would go away after your session ended (15 minutes)

now, it's database driven. You havent seen or read it, it takes ten days to change status automatically.

curly 08-31-2011 03:25 PM

Change it the fuck back!!!!! What the fuck!!!!

11 fucking pages of fucking new fucking posts. What the fuck fucking fucker fucking shit!!!

gospeed81 08-31-2011 03:31 PM

No...it's better this way.

phillyb 08-31-2011 03:37 PM

it's much better this way. thank you brain!

FRT_Fun 08-31-2011 03:42 PM

Aw damnit... 4 hundred and something new posts :(

At first I was like "huh?", then I was like "Oh shit they must have changed it cause of that whiny thread.", and then I came here... and was like

http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile...983_2252_n.jpg

Braineack 08-31-2011 03:43 PM

they will expire in 10 days. happy reading.

triple88a 08-31-2011 03:55 PM

This is the shit, i love it!!! Now i can finally enable MT as a startup page instead of having to go here manually. Sucked family using my pc and logging in here by default and then all the new msgs disappeared

eafy 08-31-2011 07:00 PM

 So much better!

cpolly69 08-31-2011 07:39 PM

Quick Links -> Mark Forums Read

blaen99 09-01-2011 03:00 PM

Ugh. I hate this new crap, and I was wondering wtf was wrong. Is there some way to go back to the old system from this shitty system?

triple88a 09-01-2011 10:09 PM

Still curious how is the old system better?

Cause I was used to it and I hate change.

If I visit mt.net, and leave, I've already read anything I'm interested in.

FRT_Fun 09-02-2011 02:21 PM

Yea... now I see a bunch of posts I didn't want to read. Also if I read one, then go to a different one, now that thread is gone from the list. So I can't go to it again without looking for it. I like to look at some threads a few times.

y8s 09-06-2011 11:18 AM

this is the way it should be. sometimes there are more new posts (or single posts of elesjuan in the picture thread) that take more than 15 minutes to read. once that elapses, it fucks my shit up.

now i can mark them read when I'm good and ready.
