Default Prefetching

Prefetching is not allowed due to the various privacy issues that arise.
I have just started receiving this message fairly regularly in my browsing of the forum. I am not aware of changing any settings recently. Firefox browser.

Prefetching sounds like an activity that happens regularly on Miataturbo.

I'm more familiar with "postfelching."

I take it you are using a proxy server?

about:config -> set network.prefetch-next to false.

I don't think I'm using one. Sprint wireless card plugged into the laptop with their native software. I haven't changed anything lately.

I am so out of my element that I can't recall how to access the cmd prompt to insert what you have given me to type. Windows 7.

Well, to access the command prompt in Win7, you hold down the "windows" key and hit R.

That, however, is irrelevant, since you need to type about:config into the address box of your web browser, then scroll down to the network.prefetch-next line, and set it to false.

Wow. There's all kinds of settings in there to screw with. I've seen that screen before a few years ago but normally I just don't need access to it any more than I need access to a properly tuned banjo.

I appreciate all of the help. I know my limitations in certain areas.

Well, the internet has truly failed me on this one.

I was certain that if I typed the correct combination of keywords into the Youtube search box that I would be able to come up with a video of characters from My Little Pony playing "Dueling Banjos." And yet my efforts have met with utter failure.

Thus, I leave you with a still image of a pony, and a video of Steve Martin playing Dueling Banjos on the Letterman Show:
