Pop-in ads

Get rid of them immediately, please. I pay entirely too much money to this site for vendor status to deal with bullshit like that.

More details? What thread were you in, what browser, what OS? Did you happen to get a screen shot?

FRT_Fun 11-13-2013 02:27 PM

Lars hacked your computer.

If I did that, do you really think all I would do would be give Savington popups? Hell no, leaking all the TSE turbo kit details is what I would do. That is what we all really want.

Really if we get more details about where the popups come up and such we can work on getting them removed. Screen shots of the popups work the best. I use Opera in Linux with ad-block enabled, so I have never seen a popup on mt.net. So without screen shots or more details it becomes hard to trouble shoot.

So I'm at my work computer at ASU... and I just got a pop-in ad. I haven't gotten one at home, but just got one now. Here it is:

I randomly get them. The issue (from my perspective as a web developer) is InternetBrands uses ad serving platforms and those platforms have little oversight. You buy space, and submit some code that is normally just directing the server where to grab the ad from. That is normally the only time ads/code/what is being served is reviewed. Then all it takes is swapping out what is being served. So instead of an ad that was suppose to load in the tiny box at the top, you get some crazy code that launches that annoying floating box ad. And we know IB rarely visits us here, and since its a random occurrence, the chances of them actually seeing it is low.

I'm pretty sure we (the members) looked into this last time. I remember looking at the code when it pops up and it's just a line of code that gets injected, I forgot the company name though but it seemed pretty shady. It seemed to stop for a while after we complained last time (or it could be because i was using adblock) but I guess it's back. If it pops up again I'll peak a little further.

Just got the SAME popup FRT posted just now. Was on the "new posts" page, and moved as i scrolled up/down.

FRT_Fun 11-14-2013 11:51 AM

Can we get our pitch forks yet?

shuiend 11-14-2013 12:00 PM

I have sent Nolan a message about them.

IB Nolan 11-14-2013 05:03 PM

Thanks for the heads up to this thread Lars.

My apologies for the pop ups, occasionally Vizu slips through and we just sent a heads up to our ad partners to block any ads coming from them. I hope to see them vanquished in the next day or so depending on the response time from those folks.

Werd. Thanks Nolan.

I was getting Vizu ads under Windows but not Linux. It turned out to be malware that got installed when I installed some other hinky shit. Removed it via "Add/Remove Software" or whatever they call it, and the popups went away.

I literally have no ability to modify anything on this computer (work computer) and I am still getting them. I checked on a new machine (brand new base image) and I got one too. So if it's malware, it's coming from this site. For the record I get them on cr.net too. But only here and there, no where else. It's not just a coincidence.

Plz fix this.

IB Nolan 12-09-2013 03:09 PM

One of our partners must have let them slip through the "no pop up" filter and I will reach out to the ad team and make sure Vizu is blocked.

My apologies,

Nolan
