Default Anyone Sim Race? Or just fool around with a wheel?

I'm picking up a used playseat evolution and g27 wheel off of craigslist tomorrow. Apparently only lightly used by an older guy. I have Asseto Corsa for PC and will probably be getting a PS4 for GT:S later this year (and a controller adapter cause logitech blows).

Anyone else fool around with this stuff?

Nice. I've always played with controllers, but I've wanted a proper wheel since playing GT3 many many years ago. I'm excited to finally have a somewhat legit set up. What games do you play?

I have only played Gran Turismo 6 so far, and I love it. Just waiting for Gran Turismo Sport to release. My lap times improved tremendously over the controller, if I had force feedback in my pedals that would be awesome but I can't afford it.

I'll have to get a picture of my setup. I use a Logitech G25 in a rig with a Miata seat, made to Miata dimensions. I mostly do iRacing, but sometimes I don't renew my subscription in the summer because I rarely use it, so I'll just play Live For Speed if I get bored.

We have another thread somewhere on here about racing. I built a setup about 4 years ago, its at a friends shop as I never had time to use it.

I have a Fanatec wheel/pedals setup with a seat/frame and did a lot of Forza on XBox. For a while had a bunch of M.netters doing 'spec' Miata races, but it was too hard to get everyone online a the same time. Then I just ran out of time for it, and it's been dormant for quite a while. I need to get it up and working again, as I want to have my wife practice on Laguna Seca a bit before Miatas at MRLS this year.

Still want to upgrade to iRacing with three screens someday... but it probably won't ever happen. It's hard enough to find time to work on the real cars!

I think VR is the next step in racing awesomeness. A VR headset with the ability to move your head around the interior looks like a lot of fun.

I'll snap some pics of the setup that I grabbed yesterday, it's really sweet. I need to get the force feedback dialed in a bit, there's a large deadspot when driving straight (so I end up wandering all over the track).

VR in racing sims is a great thing, but the technology is not good enough for it yet (in my opinion).
The first thing I did when racing in VR was checking my mirrors and blindspots when exiting the pits: you really default to your real driving habits instead of your sim habits.
I thought that was a good indication of how 'real' it feels with VR.

Current headsets do not have the resolution though: you focus a lot into the distance and the resolution of headset is not there to support that.
Looking for braking points felt like you lost your glasses. Really tiring in my opinion after a few laps.
Once the resolution of the headsets goes up and the screendoor effect becomes less I will try a VR headset again. Good chance I will buy one then.
For now I will skip the PSVR / Rift / Vive.

I used to have a G27 wheel, but I wore the pedals out. Instead of cleaning the pots I just bought a T500RS wheel with the TH8RS shifter extension.
Really a nice step-up from the G27 and I love it.
Currently I only play on my PC: mostly Assetto Corsa. Also sometimes some Dirt Rally, BeamNG Drive, iRacing and some other random games (Wreckfest, My Summer Car, Euro Truck Simulator, etc.)

I used to have a Fanatec setup with 3 27" monitors I used for iRacing.

Sold it all about 1.5 years ago. Now that I'm settled back in and I'm going to either or buy or rent a house, I'm going to build a new setup to use with 3 29" monitors. I haven't used an Occulus Rift yet, so I'm not willing to drop the coin on one yet until I've had a change to use one.

I remember the days of the MT spec miata racing on Forza. Mostly banging around on road atlanta and the occasional american iron race. Whenever I'm home I fire up Live for Speed with my old G25 setup and have some quick races. Not touched any of that lately due to uni/life/cat etc. :(
