Is anyone else playing with the Miata mod? I made this, been working on it since the original mod was released but just now getting really happy with how it drives. I've settled on feal road race damping rates and springrates for now, with "semislick" tires from a evora or something. This makes 240ftlbs at 5500rpm at 100%, so it's not too terribly unrealistic.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1440374422

In case you've never seen my car :giggle:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1408954482

I've done all sorts of suspension spring and damping rates, xidas, billies, ricelands, lol. Consists of low and high speed compression and rebound, as well as a m/s switch point. Calculating the input data is as easy as calculating shock dyno slopes, conversions, and multiplying by motion ratios...

I still have no idea what numbers to use for swaybars, but they're adjustable in game and do make quite a difference as they are now.

So, who wants to race

Erat 08-23-2015 08:13 PM

I've been waiting for it to come off $50... Have i missed it being on sale?

deezums 08-23-2015 08:18 PM

I'm not entirely sure, I think I paid $50 if I remember right, but that was with the ring DLC, too. They just released a new update and a few new cars and a track, so it might be a little while.

Girz0r 08-25-2015 09:17 AM

Will definitely check this out :bigtu:

Makes me sorta miss Forza4, I have 13 or so 'different' miatas but only a few are fully tuned.

robertw 12-08-2015 03:45 PM

I've been hosting a little drift server for my buddies when we're playing, if you want to join "Driftfaction"is the name of the server when its up. It's a US East server for ping.

deezums 12-08-2015 04:30 PM

I don't have an e-brake or clutch pedal on my DFGT, so drifting is complicated. I use a paddle for e-brake at the moment, but I can't hit it with the wheel turned sometimes, not as I'd like to hit it.

I need a G27

aidandj 12-08-2015 04:34 PM

@turbofan is building a sim right now. I'll just go bum off him sometimes :)

My current setup, I have a cheapo Thrustmaster joystick attached to a steel plate bracket I made, bolted to the side of the metal playseat frame. Took apart the joystick and epoxied in some nuts to attach it to the plate. I'll try grabbing a better photo of the setup.

Used G25 / Playseat CL special.

deezums 12-08-2015 04:51 PM

I'm considering building a 2DOF wiper motor sim chair. That's a windshield wiper motor.

Something like this. There's squat for parts in that whole mess, less than a new G27, at least.

aidandj 12-08-2015 05:08 PM

Use some headlight motors.

I'm also running a weekly league in Dirt Rally if anyone wants to join. Search for " Drift Faction" (two words).

Looks like fun.

Here's my setup:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1449686440

and in place:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1449686440

And in action, my tall-person test driver at the wheel:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1449686440

Took me about 4 hours to build the setup. There's about $15 in materials, plus an extra Miata seat from the MSM, complete with stock rails and full sliding functionality

I need to build a better solution for the shifter though, it's too far forward and close to the wheel. won't be particularly difficult, but I haven't bothered because the G27 shifter feels like nothing and I can't stand using it with Gran Turismo. We'll see how it works with Assetto Corsa when I get my computer up and running.

Nice! What kind of force feedback settings do you use for your G25?

My drifting profile
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1450122574
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1450122574

My racing profile is similar. A bit more gain (just below clipping), 720 degrees of steering, and the canned effects (road, kerb, slip) are up to like 15% I believe.

Slider 12-14-2015 06:51 PM

Thanks! Will give it a shot I used the default G27 settings and had a rough time, lot of resistance from the wheel, it's probably the extra effects. I messed around with settings in the Logitech profiler, turned off centering and turned down effects I believe and it felt a lot better. I'll compare with what you got to see what I can change.

robertw 12-16-2015 10:04 AM

I can't remember my logitech profiler settings, but if I get a chance I'll post those up too.

The lack of mod support for Project Cars killed that game for me.

On 12/4/12 I made a post about the game.
On 12/5/12 I edited that post.

In one day I knew the game sucked. Was being developed poorly. And warned others to stay away from it.

https://www.miataturbo.net/gaming-91...-morons-69793/

Fuck that game.

deezums 12-16-2015 05:20 PM

FWIW, Assetto isn't perfect.

It's impossible to model digressive shocks like xidas with only two linear damping curves, as a quick example.

It was fully disappointing. The graphics are good, the visuals look great, cars are pretty, weather looked great. I was so excited for it. It came out, I played it for 5 minutes, realized the tire model was fucked and the cars drove much worse than gran turismo or forza and felt nothing like a real car. I then purchased assetto corsa and have been much happier. I also have Dirt Rally, but I suck ass at that. Hands are too slow.

Erat 12-17-2015 08:35 AM

Spend some time playing Dirty Rally. Once you get good, it becomes a LOT more fun.

The amount of attention needed to play that game is unlike anything I've ever played before.

timk 12-17-2015 06:15 PM

I much prefer AC over Project CARS.

I signed up for Project CARS very early on in development and got a copy of the game and 150% of my money back for being an investor or something, so that scores it a +1. It's a "pretty" game but the force feedback is so dull compared to AC.

No sim is, but Assetto is the best one out there atm as an all around package. iRacing is a close second, but that game is a completely different experience. AC is also being developed by a very small team, last I heard the staff was only 10 people.

Erat 12-18-2015 12:42 PM

Honestly, rFactor is better than anything being discussed in here. I've never played RF2, but I can only assume it's just as good or better than the first.
Edit*
Live for speed is also very good, maybe even better than rfactor.

I need to try AC to compare.

Um, WHAT?

rfactor was good 10 years ago, not so good anymore. rFactor 2 is a bust, and that meh pricing model. AC appears to be the current standard, and is where the modding community shifted it's focus to after rfactor. rFactor 2 has been out for a few years, while the physics are excellent , everything else would lead you to believe it's only just been released. Lack of official content, aesthetically inferior, and uses directx 9? Really? Good luck with that.

AC's only been out for about a year, rFactor 2 has been out for 2 years. AC is a more well rounded product for the price atm. What made rfactor 1 so great has made AC great, excellent mod support / content.

turbofan 12-18-2015 02:54 PM

Srsly. this is an assetto corsa thread, and you say RFactor is better than anything being discussed here, but you haven't tried AC?

:robert:

Erat 12-18-2015 04:35 PM

I also said live for speed is good too and that game is old as dirt.

I'd much rather play that then some of the new games coming out calling themselves simulators.

deezums 12-18-2015 05:17 PM

Live for speed is pitiful, isn't that the one where you pay 10 euros a month for fantasy land cars? I guess at least I could run it on my toaster, though.

Yeah, they don't have the rights to use real cars. The driving, physics, setup is very realistic. The cars behave really realistic.
AC is still on sale, i'll buy it tonight.

I was really good at this at one time.

turbofan 12-19-2015 08:36 PM

I tried to refund AC and buy it again, citing that it's now cheaper (they actually had that as an option on the refund request form... 'price is lower now than it was before' or something to that effect.

They denied it, citing "too many hours of play" :vash:

:giggle: oh well the game is worth $60, so whatever.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 12-19-2015 09:57 PM

Just drove a BRZ around Monza with a PS3 controller. It was hard to be smooth, the sticks are really touchy.

What wheels are you guys running? I see the old G27 has skyrocketed in price now that it is discontinued. Quite the bummer.

Also, Im wishing I had a 1440 monitor...

Thanks, I have the centering spring disabled, I'll try it enabled and see how it feels.

A sim rig would be nice, sometimes I want to jump in and play without having to drag this thing out with eleventy cables dangling everywhere.

Anyone here on iRacing? I bought a year subscription since they were half off.

Frys had a G27 for under $200 a couple months back but I doubt that's going to come up again, seems like they're all gone. That's what I'm running.

They still make the G29 but it doesn't come with a shifter and it's kind of pricey for what you get. Stay away from the xbox version which is the G920 which still has no PC drivers.

I'd look into the Thrustmaster wheels, great bang for the buck and they have a good amount of choices. You can grab the T150 for under $200, and you can add-on a shifter and nicer 3 pedal set to it later on if you decide too.

If you want to get crazy get the T300 base and this wheel rim

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1454364838
The wheel quality is amazing, it feels solid and the alcantara is really good quality. It feels like a aftermarket wheel from one of the big brands.

Add-on T3PA pro pedals and the shifter and it's a great setup. If you want to get crazy and have an amazing setup get load cell modded T3PA pros or Clubsport V3 pedals which will get you more of a real car hydraulic feel, makes you more consistent under braking and allows you to module better. Those would require a rig or hardmounted pedals since the pedal is a lot stiffer, they would slide all over the place if you have them on the floor.

robertw 02-02-2016 03:41 PM

Used Logitech wheel on CL, there's always someone selling a G25/27. My buddy picked up a mint G27 recently for $100.

What drift tracks do you guys like?

Any other mods are welcome, I downloaded the S13 and a few tracks like Road America, Tor Poznan and some other random stuff from this russian website Cars for Assetto Corsa It seems to have recent versions of everything. Some of the websites had outdated versions of the tracks.

Flyinglizard45 04-23-2016 04:35 AM

Anyone still play here? I don't post much, mostly lurk the fs/ft threads but have racked up nearly 650hours since AC was in early access. I'm usually drifting in the e30/drift track combo server or the moonhead server that runs titan mod content.

turbofan 04-23-2016 01:30 PM

I've played... 39 hours? And probably 10 of that wasn't even me, but a friend of mine going around and around on Laguna Seca.

Mr.Titan car pack is probably the best all around "feeling" batch of drift cars. Tracks, ebisu, tamada, yamanashi, nikko, bihoku, meihan, sekia hills.
