I'm not all that familiar with the specifics of how LCD monitors work. It seems like every different manufacturer has their own trademarked name for some specific patented technology which differs slightly from the next, and I've never much bothered to learn to differentiate them.

To me, all modern-day LCD monitors pretty much look the same, in that I hate them as compared to a proper CRT, and yet can't justify ponying up the exorbitant amount of money that it costs to purchase one of the very few remaining CRT monitors on the market today.

So it's kind of like comparing the magnetohydronamic active suspension technology in a current-gen Merc to the ferroflangiometric damper compensation in the higher-end Porsches. I'm sure they're both awesome, and I'm aware that some folks prefer one over the other. But my Fat-cat revalved Bilsteins seem to do a sufficiently good job that I've never really bothered exploring whatever new thing the Germans claim is going to forever change the experience of driving through turn # 4,127 at the Nürburgring.

I am pretty sure you can get computer cases that come in just about every color imaginable. Those are one of the most customizable things in the computer world.

One thing I will stress is that you need to buy a name brand good power supply. I have seen to many times people cheap out on power supplies and then have problems later on down the road.

I bought a case back in 2004 for like $50-$60. I have reused that same case since then. Whenever I upgrade the internals I just apply the new stickers that come with the CPU and mobo.

IMHO. A case is something that will stick with you for *a lifetime?* Spend a little cash and get a good one, and one you like. Full tower. Motherboard trays are nice. Clip in easy removable hard drive trays. Aluminum, it acts as a great natural heatsink. ect. When people walk in my room and see my nice mid tower case with it's clear side, and water cooling lines it always gets complements.

Oh nice. I'm added some of those parts to my list of "things to check out" because the reviews were good.

I was thinking about the 500W Antec. I read good things about them and some people on here have recommended them and used with no issues.

I lol'd because the first thing that came to mind when looking at cheaper cases was, "how well can I spray paint this???"

I don't mind spending extra on a cool looking case. I've never had anything like this before, so I having a bit of *bling* would be nice. Although, there is a nice looking Antec Sonata III that I was looking at (also comes with 500W power supply) and I think I could paint it white with ease. (I'm a decent painter so please don't think this will be a sloppy redneck job)

I was actually going to ask about the difference between the mid/full tower cases. From what I read the difference appears to be Mid: 16-21 inches, Full:21 inches and up. Also, is there a major difference between plastic/aluminum/steel cases, performance wise?

What do you think about the Corsair case that I posted above?


I was looking at monitors and started thinking to myself, "Why don't I just use my TV?". I have a 32" 1080 flat screen with VGA hookup. It would certainly make things nicer to have everything run off one unit. A/V for PS2, HDMI for PS3, VGA for computer. I haven't looked into it yet, so please inform me if this is a bad idea.

Use HDMI to connect your PC with. Or DVI. Stay the **** away from VGA.

Alright, a quick google search tells that the easiest way to go is to get a card that has a dedicated HDMI port.

Something along the lines of this: Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card ( 11202-00-20G) Overkill for my needs?

Unfortunately I'm still not at the point of being able to discern the differences based on the description.... working on that.

For that GPU you're going to want to make sure the motherboard you pick out has a PCI-E x16 slot. (most do, and it should)

Steel is going to be heavy as fauck, and plastic will be shotty, and likely to have things snap off. Aluminum is you're all around perfect material IMO.

Corsair case seems to be pretty solid.


BTW VGA sucks *****. Go for HDMI or DVI both work just as good.
And you're not going to get TRUE HD video through VGA.
