Looking for a new laptop, help.

Im looking to get myself a new laptop in the $800.00 range. I wont be doin any gaming, real work or anything that requires tons of speed or memory. I want it to be in the 17" class with disc player/burner lots of usb ports 2.5ghtz, and 6/650 memory.

Just looking for any insight. Thanks

In response to the mod's linked thread, you can get a good refurb lappy for a good price, although it is a fairly hit and miss endeavor. I would say 85% of them are good versus another 15% that conk out after a year or two from using recertified and/or parts that are out of spec in some way. Depending on how long you intend on keeping this thing, I still recommend the asus I linked.

You're right, Joe doesn't know what he's talking about, and the lap top I'm currently typing on is broken. So are the half dozen others that mt.net members bought. Good call.

Hey now, I wasn't trying to be critical of anyone, just giving in my :2cents:. I am glad that your refurb is working out. You and others on the forum are most likely in the 85% of ones that have no problems and last just fine.

I would not act as though it is not higher risk to buy a refurbished anything. There IS a reason the prices are lower, yeah?.

Also, I would like to point out that I LOVE woot.com. Check out slickdeals.net as well, you can get some really good deals that way.

Best Regards.
