So, my old rig was an E8400@4.6ghz, 780iFTW, 9800GT (replaced with 460GTX at some point), 4gb ddr2 I built in dec '08/jan '09

Recently, I got dying light and shit just wasn't gunna fly. If GTAV ever comes out, I would also like to be able to play that. So, I order deez.

Spark notes:
i5-4690k
z97 mobo
r9 290 4gb
8gb ddr3 2166
NZXT h440 case

Planning to pick up one of the trendy new AIO Liquid CPU coolers when they go on sale for $50 again, 240mm rad. Until then, using the CM 212.

Picture of the case because that's all anyone sees anyway (until there are nice big watercooling lines). Lots of low-rpm fans, lots of space, lots of sound dampening foam. I want the magnaflow 12589 of cases.

sexy, glad I never got into PC gaming, that shit is expensive.

Damn, that build list just reminded me why i constantly just upgrade my current computer bit by bit with used parts...

Should run pretty well though.

Your old build is almost exactly what I'm running right now. Built in 09 as well.
e8400 @ 3.8ghz (air), started with a ati 4850 then went to a nvidia 560ti boost. g-skill 4gb ddr2..

I'm looking to build another PC pretty soon cause this one is starting to chug at most things. I'll probably stay away from overlocking the new one, I just can't be bothered anymore.

Total was $764. I bought a Surface Pro 2 for $320 last year, and my laptop has just sat around since then. So I justified this build by selling that (currently at $500shipped on ebay).

@Onyxyth

I used gskill ddr2....
Tell me you didn't use an Arctic Freezer 7 cpu cooler...

Hah, no, probably worse? I have the Xigmatek that was popular at the time.. I think it was this one:
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler I5 775 AMD compatible - Newegg.com

is better IMO.

Also go with a gtx970. cheaper elsewhere

also evo212 cooler is better.

I compared the two mobos while shopping, though I looking more at the gaming7.
1: The bundle I purchased that got the cpu/mobo down to $299 was not available with the Gigabyte5. Secondly, it had only one pci 3.0 x16, and only two usb 3.0 ports on the back. I considered the Gaming7 that was available in a bundle for the same price of $299, but I had found numerous complaints about audio noise etc. Thus, I landed with the MSI that was better reviewed and met all of my needs.

The cheapest I ever saw a gtx 970 while shopping around for my parts was $300. My roommate paid $175 for his r9 290 with a reference cooler, and I paid $195 for mine with the double dissipation fans. For $100 more, the FPS increase in games around 60fps was like, +4 if I went with the 970, and like +10 if you were already at 120fps. The additional money was better put elsewhere, like my pocket.

The 212 cooler was free. A loaner until I watercool. So, no complaints if there is a nice model that would have cost me money.
