Had it set up as raid5 (1tbx3) only and it was to slow. Dropped 1 drive so I could have 2 running on sata 3 and it was much faster but still to slow. Picking up 2 SSDs and now I can load os and new games on the high speed disc and install old games I play less of on spinning disc. OS boots 2 times faster than my bios/raid check. I Think I can finally download my whole steam library.

My current media server at home has a 120GB Samsung SSD running Mint Linux 16. Then for storage on it I have 3 2TB drives and 1 1.5TB drive for 7.5TB of space. I also have another 1.5TB external drive plugged in with firewire. Currently about half the storage space is full.

Have 6 sata ports on my MOBO. Originally ran the OS on 2x 500gb platters set up in raid0, and music/movies/etc. set up on 2x platters in raid 1. Then bought a Samsung 830 for the OS, still ran program files off the raid0.

Then I bought a netgear readyNAS 316 and filled 2 of the 6 bays with 3TB disks. Now I have a lonely raid1 array in my desktop that is pretty useless. That leaves me with 3x SATA ports remaining. - Now if I could convince microsoft to release an SSD Optimized OS designed to use the SSD for OS files, and the platter for everything else that Windows likes to default to the C: Drive...

Holy shit, the day I installed the OS on the SSD - you're right on, OS loads up faster than the BIOS.
