Star Citizen!

So has anyone here been into Star Citizen? It won't be out for another year+ but the dogfighting alpha is coming soon. Basically, it's a game where you live in a star trek like world that is focused on user skill, space flight simulation, and tons of other stuff. Also it has raised $33mil+ on crowdfunding alone

I am so damn excited for it, bought the 315i ship package. Link to get an idea of what it is is here:

I cant wait budehhhh. They say should be released in 2014 sometime.

jeff_man 12-10-2013 09:09 AM

Buddy has been following this from the start and is now working on a community content project with them. Art and audio last time I saw him. I'm staying of the hype train till the game ships.

triple88a 12-10-2013 09:25 AM

Jeff check out X rebirth in the mean time.

Its the new X3 game that just got released 2 weeks ago.

Bryce 05-23-2014 01:20 PM

Dog Fight Module comes out on Thursday next week!

I went ahead and purchased the Aurora LN package. Patiently waiting....

They've raised almost $44 mil now!

Is anybody else planning on buying an Oculus Rift? I'm considering preordering the Dev Kit 2.

triple88a 05-23-2014 02:00 PM

I'm debating on a Dev kit 2 but i've waited this long so i'll hold out a little longer. According to the news they are expecting to get it in the stores for xmas and if thats the case than i'll buy one then.

Sure it will. Like it was supposed to come out on that Wednesday last september, and then the Monday in January...

All I want is just a simple single player sequel to Freelancer.

FRT_Fun 05-23-2014 04:47 PM

I've lost all hope of finding another really good game. I don't know if it is because I'm getting older, or expecting more, but I feel like the games I had back on SNES, DOS, and PS1 were way better in their time, than modern games are today.

triple88a 05-23-2014 10:24 PM

X3 rebirth was utter junk IMO. X3 terran conflict and the one after that was very nice though. My favorite after freelancer.

Mobius 05-24-2014 01:51 PM

This is the tits. I would have bought a ship during the kickstarter but I was out of the loop. Have a constellation now.

Do not expect this game to ship in 2014. Late 2015 is my guess at earliest retail release.

X3:TC and X3:AP are both quite excellent with some mods - the one that crunches down and consolidates stations in particular.

triple88a 05-27-2014 10:07 PM

Hmm how about Elite?

Not free yet. they plan on making it buy it once play for free thing.

Elite: Dangerous - Become Legend

Wow this game is pretty.. skip to 9:30 for the hyper jump.

Leafy 05-27-2014 10:44 PM

Ok, real orbital mechanics, thats cool. But it looks tedious, like why I played X3 for all of 4 hours and still hadnt even managed to travel to the system the single player story starts in and gave the fuck up.

x3 which version?
You should get terran conflict. Do the terran plot.
Its an amazing game once you get the hang of it.

If you need help i'll help ya out. Give it a chance.

Like at this point i'd say its comparable to freelancer.

Leafy 05-27-2014 10:57 PM

I have all of the older ones I think. I was trying to do them in chronological order. I remember reading walk thought that started with like, "ok setup all these trade routes and shit for the next 10 hours then you can afford to start the actual game."

Mobius 05-27-2014 11:01 PM

Yeah X3 is not for the impatient, even nodded. I enjoyed it a lot once I had mods that got rid of the most ridiculously tedious parts ( like outfitting new ships - you're going to force me to fly every one individually to 3 different systems to get the equipment they need? Really? There's nobody offering a ship outfitting service in this universe? ), lack of any fleet management software, the ridiculous overhead and complexity and frame rate hit of the stock station complexes, etc.

Flyable ships and dogfighting hit Star Citizen on Thursday with the initial Alpha release. Woot!

triple88a 05-27-2014 11:13 PM

Nah play X3 Terran Conflict first. They saw the lack of tutorials in X3 Reunion and added one in TC. It's good enough to get you started playing the game with stuff. It even goes as far as capping ships and so forth. Worth it.

Leafy 05-27-2014 11:16 PM

Looks like X3 TC was the one I was trying to play, because I've got the X3TC for dummies book in pdf form on my computer. Really didnt help.

*I take that back, looks like I was trying to play albion prelude.

triple88a 05-27-2014 11:21 PM

Never played Albion Prelude but i heard its also good. But yeah Do TC and try the terran plot. if you have any questions post them up.

fooger03 05-28-2014 10:28 AM

X3:TC - this is the one single game that I have spent more time playing than any other game by a magnitude of at least 5. The learning curve is steep, but once you are in it, it is that good.

triple88a 05-28-2014 10:31 AM

Once you get the springblossom in TC you're set for the rest of the game.

Dunning Kruger Affect 05-28-2014 10:59 AM

Are you guys talking about Chris Roberts presents Chris Roberts' Star Citizen?

triple88a 05-28-2014 12:31 PM

Thats what this thread was first about however currently its about random/good space genre games.

TheScaryOne 05-29-2014 05:41 PM

I am looking forward to Star Citizen. I loved Freelancer, spent quite a bit of time on the open servers online, even if there's hardly anyone on. I play through the single player every few years just because it's so much fun. My favorite system was Texas. One big flipping radioactive debris cloud.

I must try this X3:TC.

Nah man the old school 4.83 alien organisms trade route from Planet Cambrige to Sigma 17. Took you through some beautiful systems like the one with the neutron star.

The Nomad worlds are some of the most beautiful systems though like Omicron Iota.

Of course i'm talking Freelancer Discovery mod here.

TheScaryOne 05-29-2014 06:28 PM

Oh yea, in Discovery the Nomad systems were the best. But for spooky ambiance, little beats the eerie silence of Texas, with the occasional electrical storms. I always hung out with the Junkers at Beaumont Base.

I hated the Cambridge to Sigma 17 route. I'm trying to remember the route I came up with so I could get a Firefly-class ship in Discovery. Wound up cranking it all out in one night of caffeine and addiction.

Edit: I think I ran Cardamine (fuck the police) from Omicron Alpha to Planet Manhattan, at $1200 profit per unit, and I think Luxury Consumer Goods from Planet Manhattan to Ainu Depot for $1250 per.

triple88a 05-30-2014 01:46 AM

Yeah i played discovery till about the middle of 4.84 when they came up with the tons of rules about what you could and couldn't trade and all the weapon rules. After that i got annoyed and quit. The energy drain during hyper drive was the final straw since it made pve farming boring. Had a corsair battleship with the max armor and an osiris again with the max armor.. mk 7 or whatever it was for 800 mill. After that my account got wiped since i stopped logging in.

Leafy 06-02-2014 09:00 PM

How the dick do I use the trading system extension? I cant fucking figure out what buttons I need to push or what shit. Everything online when talking about it just says to use it. Yes its fucking installed on my ship along with the best price tool thingys.

triple88a 06-02-2014 09:49 PM

My advice is to get one of the ownerless trading ships. There is a good one in Menelaus' Frontier.

Universe map X3 Terran Conflict / X3 Terran Conflict (X3TC)

I'd suggest getting some salvage insurance if you've never claimed a ship before.

When you enter the sector go to the coordinates 43, -7, 35. Save using the salvage insurance. Stop your ship, exit it, then go close to the abandoned ship like 30m or something, click on it to claim it. Now that ship is yours. Give it the trading extension 3. That extension is 501k and is available in teracorp HQ in home of light. Toss it in a safe system like home of light and have it start the sector trader.

This is the basic automated trader. Eventually when you're not hurting for money you can take bigger risks and start with universe trader.

If you want to do the manual trader the trading extension 1 and 2 allows you to manually tell your ship where to go and drop off/pick up. The trading extension 1 and 2 allows you to buy and sell to a station from the remote ship (aka player ship).

IMO its best to start out with the sector trader while you carry on with the Terran missions.

More ownerless ships. (I do not recommend selling them as theres no other way to get those exact ships in the game)

Yeah I havent quite gotten to 500k credits yet. I'm still trying to figure out how the dick just to use parts of the game. Like even setting up a manual run, no idea how to get to that screen.

And what system is that ship in at those coordinates.

And how do I go to a set of coordinates, or know what the coordinates are.

How do I leave my ship, is it just hit the eject button?

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1401760519

Because nothing else does. I'm getting to the point where I'm just clicking on random shit and hitting buttons to figure out what shit does and how to get into things.

triple88a 06-02-2014 10:05 PM

LoL No problem. For now just focus on getting the terran conflict missions done.

I'll tell you anyways though.
Press R. That is the screen with all of your ships and stations. You will have very few (1 or 2) and probably wont be able to remote control stuff just yet.

Click on this link. This is the entire map of the game. Universe map X3 Terran Conflict / X3 Terran Conflict (X3TC)

Press the keyboard button , or . one opens the sector map. The other opens the universe map.
You will need to find where you are and how to get to sector Menelaus' Frontier using the map in the link above. Its on the left (purple)

Once you get to the Menelaus' Frontier sector, open the sector map. Hoover the mouse over your ship. You will see coordinates on the map screen. Search for the above coordinates.

Disclaimer: I have no idea WTF Star Citizen is, nor am I likely to invest any effort at all into finding out.

But listening to some of the tank here reminds me of a slightly older online multiplayer spacefaring game that I used to really be into:

My roommates and I spent months mapping out the galaxy by hand in pencil on the walls of the apartment we shared in college.

In retrospect, that time might have been better spent...

Oh the system is called menelaus' frontier. I thought thats what the ship I was trying to salvage was called.

I'm more concerned about how to see the prices of goods at other stations.

fooger03 06-03-2014 07:59 AM

to see the prices of goods at other stations, pull up a map of your sector and use the arrow keys and enter to select a station. If you wish to see the prices of goods in other sectors, you must have a remote ship or satellite located in that sector.

The trading system extension allows you to command a remote ship in any sector to trade with a remote station at which it is docked. It is so necessary that I refuse to pilot a ship without it.
