Default Video card recommendation?

Can someone recommend me a new video card? I want to get something so I can play some video games (mainly skyrim) but I also dont want to spend a fortune. I was trying to keep it under $200

edit: I think I need a pci one. I currently have an 8800 GTS but I think it's time for an upgrade. Also it wont display on my second monitor anymore so it's time to go lol

a 6850 will fit your goals quite nicely

I've got two GTX460s and would highly recommend one.

about a year ago I got a BLAZING deal on a 5850, and it upgraded my 8800gts. If you read the benchmarks, the 5850 and 6850 are very close, but typically the 5850 comes out just a smidge ahead.

That said, they are damn near neck and neck, and the 6850 is quite a bit cheaper, unless you score something like I did.

The moral of the story is, I started where you were, and my new card makes my nipples hard. Listen to the advice already given. I've yet to play a game that even remotely makes this card sweat.

wow thanks for the quick responses. did you guys have any power supply issues when upgrading? I dont recall what power supply I used in this build

edit: I think I'm good, I double checked my order from newegg and I used a 700w thermaltake. should be good to go. Now it's just deciding between the GTX 560 and 6850, the latter which is significantly cheaper

I thought a gtx560 was just an overclocked 460 :-/

The 460 put up better fps results on Just Cause 2 than the 6850. I'll have to find the link to the tests. Just Cause 2 is the closest thing to Skyrim they tested.

GTX560 Ti 448 or 6850 is all there is price/performance-wise imo.

460/560 "beats" the 6850, but not to such an extent that it justifies the price increase.

$210 with rebate OP. It's $10 out of your range, but Jeff makes an excellent point if you are willing to put up with BIOS flashing and voided warranties. I personally refuse to consider voiding my warranty anymore, but Jeff's point is a very good one.

Dude, I used to flash video card bios every friggen week. I had a radeon 9800 that at different stages in its life thought it was 3 different cards. Then they started hard locking the cards and that practice kinda died off. Point being, I wouldn't bat an eyelash about flashing video card bios's. Unless you're a dipshit.

If you can successfully build and maintain an overclocked computer (hope I'm not assuming too much here) a bios flash is kid .

anyone see this? It's the 550 but it's only $115 after MIR and $10 off for the weekend. Seems decent for the price

The 550 is a terrible choice based on benchmarks.

The 6850, in some tests, as much as doubles the 550's FPS and on average displays about ~50% higher performance. For $10 or $20 more.

For $33, should I bother upgrading my old Dell desktop from a Radeon HD2400 Pro to a Geforce 8800 GTS?
