So, found a sweet deal on a '90 that I just couldn't pass up. It was posted on craigslist. (http://houston.craigslist.org/cto/861194641.html)

Guy ended up dealing down to $1500. I'm not sure what I'll end up doing with it yet, but the possibilities include.

1) Stripping the rollbar, turbo exhaust, flywheel/clutch, and wheels. I'll keep the flywheel/clutch and possibly wheels, sell the rest. Then, sell the car in a better market with a fresh engine (since this one smokes like an industrial chimney) for a profit.

2) Keep the car, but sell the blingy rollbar to offset the repairs it needs.

3) Keep the car, swap over all my gear, sell my turbo setup and '97 separately, build up the 1.6 and pocket the left over.

Input will be considered, although likely not respected

*edit* the rollbar is getting sold no matter what, so if you want it PM me. Local pickup is preferred, price is $850 ($1140+shipping new) reasonable offers will be considered.

Wow, harness with a stock seat, what a bad idea.

I would trade the taillights for stockers on cr.net or m.net. Then either sell the red one, and build the motor on the black one. Or sell the black one(part out) and build up the red one.

Either way = win.

Sharp car. A maco paint job and it is ready for turbo. How much nicer is the 97 though?
If you where building it. Couldn't you just sell the manifold and use a 1.6 with the rest of your kit? It sounds like he bought the store out on that car. Macco will paint it cheap.
I would stic with the one I liked most. But I would sure swap over everything performance to the car you keep! LOL

Dude, that's probably the best deal I've ever seen on a Miata.
The rollbar and wheels alone are worth $1500.

I agree with a Maco paintjob... or it'd be a great time to seal off the garage and teach yourself how to do it.

You can do an OEM rebuild on the motor for about $1200-$1300... buy a salvage head and learn some p&p skills... you can have that thing looking and driving like brand new for about $3500 total.

I'll start a for sale thread when I get home from work. It sounds like the tail lights and rollbar are spoken for. Right now I'm leaning towards swapping in my spare 1.8 and moving m whole kit over. Put mine back to stock and sell it. Leaves me with 4k extra in my pocket for a daily driver so I can get stupid with the red one.

I could think of a couple problems, but I've seen other cars with stock seats use harnesses and bars without a problem. Not sure on this one. Unless it effects the way the seat operates. Or if the seat hampers the way the harness operates (i.e. spinal compression, or poor fitment on the user).

I wouldn't personally jump at a roll bar unless it was cheap. Here's my problem with a roll bar. On a couple forums I'm with, I've read stories of how the roll bar harmed the passengers of the vehicle during a crash. From a simple bump on the head, to a guy that got put into a coma (not sure if he ever came out) because his MR2 Spyder got T-boned by a truck and his head SLAMMED against the bar causing massive trauma.

If I get a roll bar, I'm either only using the car when I have a helmet on, or it will clear my head in the event that I get thrashed about in an accident.
