10th aniv miata

ok ive been wanting one of these for a while but i need some feedback from you guys. It has 55k on the motor which is the good thing, its missing the front lip ,and the bumper and fender need to get repainted due to the clear coat peeling. The top needs to be replaced and there is a lot of corrosion on the engine, needs new battery ,and the tires are dry rotted. and there is some service rust underneath the car. What do you think would be a good price for this car. im just looking at a ball park figure. thanks

Sounds pretty beat to crap, honestly I'd look for something else. If it's that ragged out you're probably going to find a lot more issues. If you do try to pick it up make sure the torsen and 6 speed are still there. How many miles on the car itself? It's tough to even guess at a price without any pictures. I wouldn't be surprised if they were asking $5000+ for it, but I wouldn't imagine it would sell anytime soon.

I wouldn't buy it just cause of the service rust.

well if its a 10th anniv then the engine/6sp/torsen are worth 1500-2000 alone. I'd pay no more than 2500 if I were you..

If I were ME, I'd never buy a car with rust. Or pay like 1500 for one just to yank the nice stuff off it

surface rust underneath the car just it a couple of areas. there is no rust at all in the quarter panels.

Sick! It has a style bar!

OP, I saw the ad and given the limited description it's a tough call to give it a value over the interwebs. I would probably pass, but then again I'm a cheapskate who hates body work including repainting (cause it never matches).

I'd press to know the miles on the chassis. Any Miata in a slightly wet environment will have a bit of surface rust on the components under the car, it's a fact of life. The steel pieces get blasted with road grit which removed the protective coating and allows a little rust to form...but nothing to worry about. Generally, if there is no rust around the edges of the quarter/fenders by the wheels, you'll be OK as far as "cancer" rust goes. But like others have said, body/paint work is about the most expensive mod to a car if done correctly. If you're concerned about aesthetics, pony up for a car you know is in the physical condition you want. Mechanical components can be fixed much cheaper.

So its been wrecked, needs a new top, battery, and tires, and is in the process of converting itself into iron oxide (RI car). There is still extra value in the novelty/rarity that comes with this model (for those that really need to have one). Beat up typical NB ~$2000, beat up 10AE ~$4000.
