12v switched power

where do you guys tap into for 12v switched?

paul 01-27-2008 11:51 AM

the blue plug most of us use for timing light behind the driver headlight is 12v switched with ignition.

Joe Perez 01-27-2008 11:54 AM

Depends on where you need it.

Like koto said, the little blue plug under the hood is a great spot for powering an EBC solenoid. In the dash, the cigarette lighter and radio are convenient places.

kotomile 01-27-2008 12:03 PM

actually, Paul said it. :)

I'm going to use it to hard-wire my V1.

paul 01-27-2008 12:07 PM

i tapped my EBC off that plug and tapped my WBO2 off one of the 12v switched leads that used to power the radio.

kotomile 01-27-2008 12:09 PM

yeah, I have my WI off the 12v to the radio, and now I'll probably use the cig for the radar detector, and I'll use the blue plug for EBC when MS goes in.

Saml01 01-27-2008 12:56 PM

Im running my LC1 off the same 12v that the MAF is on, planning to plug the EBC solenoid into the blue plug.

Arkmage 01-27-2008 02:02 PM

I use the plug for the power windows (which I don't have) under the center console. Powers all of my gauge lights. WBO2 is tapped off of ECU power.

Screw that i just run a fused hot wire straight from the battery and control it with a toggle switch :D solid state FTW. :D :magna: The radio antena circiut can also be used.

FHS 01-27-2008 03:12 PM

Mine are all tapped off the IG on wire.

I have taped "12 Volt Switched" wires from the..... ignition switch. Works great. I also bought a thing called "add a circuit" from Autozone. It snaps in where a regular fuse would go, and has another fused wire coming out of it. I used that for my O2 Power and KnockSenseMS. I pulled the fuse from the wipers and used that so it's switched 12V. Easy to do and easily reversible plus I never cut the factory wiring.

What do you do when it rains then  ?

kotomile 01-27-2008 06:10 PM

The wipers would still function Magna.

Productive day I had! I installed my WB02, hardwired my Valentine, and illuminated my boost gauge! Sure was a bitch getting that AEM gauge to fit into a vent. Nothing a mitre saw, file, and zipties can't fix tho...

Add-a-circuits are awesome. I love them far more than vampire clips.

xveganxcowboyx 01-27-2008 08:42 PM

Solid wire from positive terminal to a relay with the switch wire being anything you feel like tapping in to. Then you don't have to worry about pulling too much power on a pre-existing line.

thesnowboarder 03-04-2008 12:37 PM

cheapest place for these ad-a-fuses? My local Napa store doesn't have any.

A link would be awesome.

patsmx5 03-04-2008 12:46 PM

Go to Google and type in "add a circuit". You'll get one or two results...

m2cupcar 03-04-2008 01:01 PM

for the record, the door "buzzer" harness end has several 12v leads in it

kotomile 03-04-2008 08:19 PM

0o0o0o good one, that was the first thing to go when I got my car!
