What should i buy? I need a suspension (my next upgrade) but i dont like waht they have. Any suggestions where to spend it? Tower brace or sway bars?

magnamx-5 09-03-2007 02:18 PM

The tokicos look good or the agx's. Oil filter relocation is nice to.

Dow.tom 09-03-2007 03:06 PM

i dont have a problem getting to my filter, it's easy to me. Are tok's that good? I wasn't sure. Are they easy to install or should i simply take to my mech and have him do it

Dow.tom 09-03-2007 03:07 PM

and did you mean the tok handle kit, or just the shocks?

magnamx-5 09-03-2007 03:15 PM

People have had succes with all of them realy the install is pretty easy you will need a spring compressor, from autozone for 40-50$ if you have a manual this is pretty straight forward. I am sure if you ask Frank he could walk you through it no problem if i was closer we could do it in a afternoon. Mine was the first time i ever did a coil over suspension and i did it all in about 5 hours not having a single clue other than my service manual, and abit of brains. Start in the back those are the easiest.

Dow.tom 09-03-2007 03:21 PM

okay, so i think i'll grab the gas set up if you dont have any input that pushes me towards the adjustable. Yeah Frank just did his, so perhaps he bought the compressor instead of renting haha.

speedf50 09-03-2007 03:43 PM

I just swapped out my broken tein's up front for a borrowed set of stockers off of a nb. It was really straight forward, and having miata performance projects really helped me (upper control arm).

magnamx-5 09-03-2007 03:47 PM

AGX is adjustable. But tokico should work just fine. I am thinking of getting teins or some custom billsteins in the future.

SamS 09-03-2007 03:50 PM

I worked at advance auto parts over the summer. they have loaner tools where you buy the tool then you can return it when the project's done so it ends up being free to use.

Dow.tom 09-03-2007 03:50 PM

yeah you should get them now and i'll buy your setup haha

hustler 09-03-2007 08:40 PM

I put sway bars on like 1 hour ago, and man that shit is crazy now. I swear by bilstein, but you can get those cheaper somewhere else. I say front and rear swaybar with the brace.

Dow.tom 09-03-2007 09:05 PM

i was gunna get front/rear sways and the brace they sell that goes by the muffler... waht do you think hustler? which sways from them would you recommend

I just did the hollow front RB bar, front brace, the solid RB rear brace, and can't use the subframe brace because I have 3" exhaust on the way. If you track the car you must get the front brace according to Gary at TDR.

I get my AGX off Ebay. There is a guy who sells a ton of them on there for a good price. A few people in our club have bought from him and it has always been a pleasant transaction. If anyone is interested I'll look up his name.

I see on my webpage that I paid $304.50, that may have been including shipping but I am not sure.

magnamx-5 09-03-2007 09:47 PM

I wouldn't mind the name Rob. I have been thinking my bilsteins could use a break

I'm sending my bilsteins to fat cat eventually.

Don't forget that you can adjust alignment, ride height, sway bars, and tire pressure, so adjustable shocks aren't really required for fine tuning.

magnamx-5 09-03-2007 09:55 PM

true but my bilsteins are showing there age with these 225's and how hard i drive them. + I dunno if fat will revavle my used ones will he, and if so how much are we talking here. I would love to stifen it up abit and slow down the rebound a hair. I run conservative camber anyway 1.5 rear 1 in the front and try to stay as 0 toe as possible.

The only time mine get adjusted are when I go from the street/autox to the drag strip and move them to full soft on the back. I run 8/6 (front/back) for autox and 8/1 for all other times.

He will revalve you used bilsteins no problem as long as they have a snap ring on the top.

Dow.tom 09-03-2007 10:09 PM

did you buy the chassis bracing or a tower brace? Are the tower braces worth it? I will have an HKS mani with a t25, most braces wont fit right?

Not with that turbo position.

Dow.tom 09-03-2007 10:14 PM

okay so any tower brace will work? Are they worth it however or am i better off getting soemthing else to compliment sway bars? Also, are end links needed?

fucked up roads kill shocks, not driving hard at the track. How do you know they are dieing?

cjernigan 09-03-2007 10:22 PM

I was saying that tower braces will not work with the HKS and T25 setup. Atleast when I just went and looked I don't see them working to well with it though they might be alright. Most everything I read says that tower braces aren't worth it. Many of them don't do what they are supposed to and just cause the car to push. You'd be better of getting FM rails or something instead. I've done none of these mods myself though so i'm just speaking from what i've read.

Dow.tom 09-03-2007 10:28 PM

okay but everyone agrees that sway bars would be a decent upgrade. I think im gunan get those. are the endlinks needed or will they go right in?

Driving hard on fucked up raods bumpsteer etc. Yeah they are not as linear as before and i don't get the rigth feel from them. + while driving at 120+ i notice the rebound is alot less predictable than it was before. Could have something to do with my evasive manuevers to aviod a 80 mph braodside from a suv as i merged onto a louisville highway. sideways at 80 mph and then into the median with no damage other than my nerves or shocks.
Shit for 1K $ i would go with some teins. Fuck that.

hustler 09-04-2007 11:43 AM

Fuck tein, and everything about them. Fuck they're shitty warranty, pussy ass spring rates, broken adjusters, shity revalve fees, and fuck they're short life.

budget racer 09-04-2007 01:02 PM

i have the cheapo tokico HP (non-adjustable, shock & spring) package. I think i picked them up brand new under 300 bucks. I love them....stiff enough for some autox (about 1/8-1/4" drop) but soft enough for daily driving. We'll see how they hold up in the long run. I can't believe there is anything better out there for a person on a budget.

Braineack 09-04-2007 01:18 PM

I'd opt for a tublar front bar only and adjustable end-link.

+1

I wouldn't touch Tokico, and AGX (which I have) are ok but I would have rather gotten Koni yellows.

You kind of need a plan what you want to do with the suspension later down the road. Everything effects everything else.
