To 19T or not to 19T...This is the question.
Ok, so it appears my turbo is truly fucked.
I don't have time to rebuild it, nor the tools/will to right now. I'm exhausted from school and these last two weeks are going to be rough. My options from G-Pop Shop (best of places I've contacted): High Performance Rebuild: pretty much stock rebuild w/ a steel thrust bearing, shipped back to me for: $430. HP + 19T compressor wheel upgrade including machining: $605. They are going to pull the turbo apart, see what was wrong with it, then let me know. In the mean time, I'm having a hard time deciding to spend the extra coin. The car is a 90 1.6, but will be receiving a built 1.8 sometime within the year which I am shooting for at least upper 200s. I'm broke, but wanted to see what the crew thought. 2.5" TBE, FMIC, MS, 550cc. 19T wheel should be good for roughly...310-320? |
So...nobody has done this?
|
a 19T? to make upper 200whp? Yeah it can do it alright, considering that wheel can support over 370HP. I'd compare it closely to a 16g, 60 trim t3, or 2560 wheel.
|
go for it. i'd try it if i needed a rebuild and intended to keep the greddy setup while shooting for "at least upper 200s" i don't know of anyone doing it yet but i'd love to see the results
|
Watching this thread...T19, more greddy powah!
|
Are you planning on keeping this turbo for use on the future 1.8?

Yep. Apparently all I need is the ETD manifold and everything else (downpipe included) should mate up just fine.

I figure it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying new shit when I go 1.8. I just don't want it to be a shit bucket on the 1.6 while I have it. |

I know this came up before and you did the math saying ~315-330rwhp? The guys at the shop said it would be good for around the same amount of flow/power in the efficiency range.
something around there....depends if i decide to use 12:1 or 11:1 as a multiplier when calculating. |
lol, so basically we aren't really sure?
Kinda like my injectors, more than enough for what I plan on doing. But my main concern is how spool will be affected...it shouldn't hurt it that bad? its not like it is spectacular on a 1.6 compared to other turbos. |
its more like this....
the 19T can support around 500CFM at 15psi (this doesn't mean 15psi will give you 500cfm). http://www.stealth316.com/images/td04h-19t-cfm.gif 500CFM is around 34.5 lb/min 34.5 lb/min / 12:1 AFR / (.55/60 BSFC) = 313BHP 34.5 lb/min / 11:1 AFR / (.55/60 BSFC) = 340BHP push it to 550CFM and that's 38 lb/min or 377BHP if you use 11:1 Spool will likely suffer slightly. wheel isn't that much bigger...not like going to a 76mm wheel or something, the wheel is about the same size as mine. |
I'm glad you understand that, I understand what you wrote.
Just not a whole lot of why. learning curve ftw. :( Thanks. |
I was thinking about doing the same mod to my greddy set up, So do it and let us all know how it comes out!:bigtu:
|
Yes you should definately do it if you're planning on running it for the long haul. This is something I wanted to do badly.
GPOP claims that with the p&p job that they do, there is no difference in spool before/after between a totally stock turbo and the worked over 19t hybrid. |
That would be pretty sweet.
The way I see it, I couldn't justify just modding it, but it is going to be apart anyway...so what the hell. |
Turbo went out a few days ago, hopefully I'll hear back on if anything is FUBAR'd.
If not, I'm going to go ahead and have the wheel done. |
