2 step colder spark plugs ??
 

I'm going to be ordering NGK 2 step colder copper plugs and wires and am wondering what the part # for this is? I know you just change the last 2 numbers ... but what is our part number for the stock ones?

BKR6E is stock. Or close enough, anyway.

BKR7E is a common turbo plug.

There is no BKR8E. You're into race plugs at that point.

Unless you're actually circle-track racing the car, there is such a thing as too cold a plug. And as an FYI, proper NGK "race" plugs are about $30 each.

A little searching did turn up one cross-reference that has the right dimensions- the IFR8H-11 (stock #5068). It's an irridium "street" plug, 14mm x 19mm, 5/8" hex, gasket seat, resistor, etc. They're listed at a mere $12 each.

Let us know how they work out. I'm curious about this one myself.

BKR5E is stock on the 1.8s, so two steps would be the BKR7Es.

becareful, too cold and they'll fowl up right away, since they won't be able to burn off the carbon.

I don't remember which ones but I'm pretty sure I have the 7's, Iridium ones in my car. Has been running fine for 10k+ boosted miles

Spark plugs are spark plugs. No such thing as "Honda plugs" vs "Mazda plugs" per se.

There's a only few basic combinations of thread diameter, thread length, hex size, seat type, etc. So any one particular plug is gonna fit dozens of different vehicles.

It's like saying I run "Honda wheels". No, I run 15x7 wheels with a 4 bolt 100mm pattern and +41 offset. That they happen to also fit just about every vehicle Honda has ever made (as well as a bunch of Toyotas, Nissans, etc) isn't terribly important.

Actually, isn't the 5E also standard on auto 1.6s? Not sure I understand that one fully...

I think as an experiment I may buy one of the IFR8s and stick it in my engine for a while- see how it compares to the BKR7Es after a few hundred miles. Some side-by-side photos may help illustrate this for folks.

I just looking that part # on ebay it appears they are used in hondas as well, thats why I was asking to make sure I was looking at the right one. But you're right.. plugs are plugs :bigtu: Thanks again.

For some reason I also thought the 5 range was stock for our cars.

I had planned on running BKR7Es.

BKR6E-11 is standard for 1.6, but Braineack is right- the 5 is spec'd for 1.8s. And I was wrong about the 1.6 Autos- they got the same heat range but the FSM lists a Nippondenso plug for them as opposed to NGK. Damn odd.
