Depends. I can pick up most Briggs & Stratton longblocks by myself. But A GM 471 longblock, nope.

I will assume you are asking about a 1.8L miata longblock? They aren't light. A friend and I picked one up and put it on an engine stand. Wasn't easy, but it's doable if you aren't a scronny weak bitch.

I could always pull the manifolds and the head. That'd save about 50#, right?

A longblock does not have manifolds on it.

What's the head weigh? 10 or so? I don't think the pickup I'm borrowing has room for the engine, stand and folding crane so I'm seeing if me and someone else can pick it up.

To throw it on the bed of a truck you shouldn't have a problem...only a 3-4 foot lift and drop it...

Yeah the longblock weighs a lot closer to 225 than 125. It's at least 200. It is an iron block.

I figure the block weighs a little less than the B2200 motor, crank's probably about the same. I had almost no problem picking up the bare block by myself so I'll be cool with a helper. It's not so much that it's heavy, just awkward as hell.

I've seen someone lift the short block by himself, and he wasn't that big of a guy.
A friend and I picked up my whole motor which had the manifolds and the turbo still attached.

Yeah, I've picked up a longblock 302 Ford and put it on the tailgate of my truck. I did it. It's doable. But it was one of the stupidest things I've ever done. My back hurt like hell for 3 days afterward.

Next time someone in the tristate pulls their motor, I wanna stop by and try to lift it. Should make for a great youtube.

Mine should be out by Saturday or Sunday. It's only a 1.6L but my new 2000 long block should be in by Wednesday if you want to try and lift that...
