2000 miata fire...wtf?

Was driving home two nights ago from canton ohio drove there 1-1/2hrs and spent about 10 minutes there then drove the 1-1/2hr back got about 15 minutes from home and the car started jerking and sputtering like it wanted to stall ou pulled off the free way and pulled onto a little side road to pop the hood. Popped the hood n trunk to get a flash light and before I even got to the trunk my passenger started screaming to get away from the car because it was on fire!!!

We immediately called 911 and had a fire truck sent out but by that time it was burnt through the hood and the windshield was melting! Fire fighter was like well looks like there was an accelerant used in the fire...I was like well a car does get power by burning gasoline and it has to get to the engine some how...? I was like think man think! Like they were trying to blame shit on me!

Met with insurance adjuster yesterday "totaled " of coarse!! Pretty pissed loved that car!!!got great gas mileage and ran like a champ with only 42,000 on the odometer at time of fire!!!

split fuel line ftl i happened to me to but i caught it before i had a fire.

manata7a 04-11-2010 12:19 AM

Yea I wasn't as lucky with there being a rubber line that runs right over top of the alternator? Yea that's just screaming FIRE!!!! But only thing is now the insurance is trying to fuck me on the pay off because it had a salvaged title! Wasn't in a wreck it was just a strip job then put back together in California. So I may end up still oweing on my loan still after its all said and done!

Damn man, that sucks. I saw a SR'd 240 burn up at the track one day, really gave me a reality check. Went out and bought a fire extinguisher that day. Scary stuff. I can't imagine what it's like to watch something you put that much work into burn to the ground. :(

+1, Where are you located....I may be interested in the bar.

Sorry about the loss though...

Sorry to see the car catch.

I'll be investing in a halo setup for both the engine and the cabin.

Looks repairable honestly

Turbo_4 04-11-2010 12:12 PM

That's why I always carry a fire extinguisher...you just never know! Sorry to hear about your loss.

gesso 04-11-2010 12:16 PM

those pictures have definitely motivated me. I'm stopping at the autoparts place for a small extinguisher before I head out today. Good luck fighting the insurance men.

Walmart would be so much cheaper.

Braineack 04-11-2010 02:36 PM

those extinguishers you can buy in the ricer section at pepboys are completely worthless. you're better off digging a well by hand before those will ever put out a small fire.

seattle ammelk 04-11-2010 03:10 PM

that sucks man.. been there car fires suck

WonTon 04-11-2010 03:14 PM

make sure you get the insurance company to tow the car to your house so you can get your aftermarket parts off first and if any of your close friends or people that you know who own miatas who need parts you can swap out parts from you wrecked car and help others out ;) (you can make a lil money off it as well)

my friend did this when he wrecked his car.......

and just ask me how i got a free 6 speed and 3.9 diff :bigtu:

Yep, they had some 2 pound bottles that fit right behind the headrest of psngr seat perfectly. It was like 15 dollars or so.

dgmorr 04-11-2010 08:50 PM

We had some training at work on fire extinguisher use. Most people had trouble putting out a small campfire with a 5lb bottle. I almost doubt a 2lb can put out a gasoline fire once it gets going.

manata7a 04-11-2010 10:04 PM

Progressive worked too fast they grabbed the car the next day right away before 10am !!!

the insurance company had already nabbed up my friends car, he called them up and said that he has aftermarket parts that he did not want to let go. he made them bring the car to him. this was almost a week after his accident.

manata7a 04-11-2010 11:16 PM

Then I will be doing that if they will let me since they haven't cut me a check yet...if I do get the few after market parts they will be on here for sale for sure

dont back down from what you want them to do. you pay for insurance, your paying their salary.

oilstain 04-12-2010 12:34 AM

It's YOUR car, not theirs. If you have full coverage, they will reimburse you and take the title which you can buy back. If you don't have full coverage, or if they don't want to reimburse you, then they have absolutely no claim to the car at all.

That shit should be in your driveway.

manata7a 04-12-2010 12:39 AM

yea see i dont know shit about how full coverage works that was the first car that i ever owned that i ever had full coverage on?

magnamx-5 04-12-2010 12:55 AM

you should listen to them you are the boss and nothing can or will happen with out yoursay so they do not own the car until you accept the terms and or payment it is all in your fine print. why is it 99% of young people nvr fully read what they sign geez. You throw away alot of good rights by doing that.

manata7a 04-12-2010 02:06 PM

talked to insurance adjuster guys cool went to highschool with my cousin lol only like 27? said whatever i want out of the car go get it because it wont affect the value of the car due to it being a fire damage total loss...so who wants the chrome role bar and chrome door sills lol
