I'm hoping that by then there will be a better/easier transmission to swap in besides the 6sp.

I know of a guy in OKC who supposedly builds a 5-speed with "rim-polished" gears. If that's like micropolishing, which supposedly strengthens gears like cryo treating, then I'll bite. Gary at TDR has one he's going to try out, but I might take the plung prior to that. I think I'll be able to do some serious ***-kicking with 250whp though.

yeah man, let me know any/every thing about strengthening trans. Obviously some people are doin the t2 swap but, that looks like a little more fab. work than I am capable of.
So Gary is gonna test some new gears, sounds interesting. Maybe they'll be like 200 bucks! keep dreamin

yeah, that's great and all until you pay $1000 for a trans and then another $450 for a 3.63, then another $200 for someone to do the god damn labor on the R&P install. So actually, its double the god damn price if you're lucky enough to find a six-speed and you're also probably going to miss a shift and blow up the motor.

hustler IMHO if you turn up the boost and get a really good tune, I dont see why you cant get the turbo to spool a bit quicker. tuning subaru's I have gotten an fp green on an sti to go from 5k rpm full boost to 3700 just by going from 13psi to 19 with a good tune. the power/torque skyrocketed accordingly
I dont know much about tuning miata's, but I would think with a built 1.9 you should stick with the turbo you have, just to have more power availability should you want more later.
but thats just me, and I'm more a drag strip guy so take that with a grain of salt

I'll feel a lot better after BEGi calls me and tells me that I did not blow up the motor...but I'm still worried about transmission death. Basically, once I move which motor, to which turbo, to which intercooler, to which radiator, to which brakes, to which brake compound, to which dampers, to which clutch, to which computer, to which reroute, back to which turbo, then consider abandoning everything and going back to NA, then to "did I blow up the motor", now I'm going to focus on worrying about the engine which most likely has burnt up valves and the impending transmission failure.
back to the thread at hand:
Why not get the 2560 to have the headroom, because as long as the turbo is making boost/torque at 4k rpm, who cares?

But, seriously I do want a bigger turbo but this 25R should do just fine for now.
The issue i need to worry about now is what im gonna do for a transmission becuase I am still on the original 1.6 trans/diff

I picked one up for like $55, so when It goes, I might buy one more, but after that one I will definitely fix the problem and upgrade (with some sort of sequential gearbox )

So that's $800 (I paid $650 plus a working 5-speed for my box) and keep your 4.10s and Torsen, for a drivetrain you will NEVER worry about again. That's the SAME price, for a PROVEN solution with ratios that will make your car faster on every racetrack. If you ever get out to Cali, I'll let you drive my car to change your mind. Just leave it in 3rd on even the tightest corners and let the torque drag you out. I run 3-4-5-6 at Thunderhill (used to run 3-4-5 and lug 3rd in the 5-speed) and 3-4-5 at Buttonwillow (used to run 2-3-4). 4-5-6 at Willow Springs, 3-4-5 at SOW, 3-4-5-6 at Calspeed (6800 in 6th on the banking). I seriously love my gearing. I thought I'd hate it, figured I'd be dropping some coin on a 3.636, but after using it on track it's awesome.
2nd gear: 51mph
3rd gear: 71mph
4th gear: 92mph
5th gear: 116mph
6th gear: 142mph

See, the wonderfull part about quaife is how they deny warranty coverage after 48-hours of use. I will never give that ****-hole company a cent. Quaife and Autotech can eat my ****. Seriously, **** you and burn in hell.

I bought a $900 differential for my VW. The diff case broke, so I had it taken apart again so Quaife could say "we only warranty the internal gears and the trunions, not the case. Sorry." So I've now made it my mission in life to deter anyone from sending that POS company a cent. VW is on the list too.

6-speed and 4.10s is a bitchin' track box. I've missed exactly two shifts with the 6-speed, both 4-5s where I grabbed 3rd instead. Neither one blew up the motor. I can confidently crack off .2 second 2-3 shifts (and I have datalogs to back it up). Shift deliberately and you'll never miss one.

See, I can't imagine wanting to go faster than 142 in a miata. Come on. That is moving in that small car.
I may go 6-speed yet. Well, I would have to go through 3 trannies first. One in the car and the 2 spares. They are a dime a dozen cheap.
But I think the 6 speed would just be cool.

it shifts horribly. Every time I drive my sister's I want to stab myself in the face. We may actually trade though because her car is a raging ***** to get in reverse in general, and only makes 154whp (will probably never make more than 200whp). Well, after she drives my car she may end up taking the checkbook to BEGi.
If I did swap to a 6-speed, I'd get one of those really long delrin shifters...the longer the shifter, the easier to shift and more certainty with gear selection.
