The only problem I see with the universal fit is the hanger locations. The NA and NB are completely different. I just got some ultra high flow metal cats and I will be working on NA replacement cats up to 3" this weekend. Jason
Jason that sounds like my exhaust / cat that you are working on

I was amazed how much these metal cats flow considering the size and weight. I am considering the swappable version as a additional option. The standard version will bolt or weld in place. Jason
What brand are they then?

if you make a 3" for an NA, I might buy something if its realistically priced.

If you wanna save on cost a bit and make a cat/test pipe swappable, I had these on my old '90 turbo with 3 inch slip fit:

http://extrememotorsports.com/produc...8&cat=0&page=1
They're relatively easy to swap. Not V-band easy, but not V-band expensive either.

Ditto the quiet, stealthy tip. People who want the mellon shooter, JDM crookedness riceroni can buy an old CRX. They're all NA owners anyway so this thread doesn't apply.

gwilo, I finished the tooling for the cats. I'm going to build one for my car to see how they sound. I'll have yours in a couple of days. The metal cats I have are Catco brand. Jason

I have finished the 3" mid-pipe and 3" single exhaust for the NB cars. The 3" exhaust will fit the 04-05 mazdaspeed also. I'm still working on the 3" midpipe for the MSM cars. 3" dual exhaust is next. I'll get some photos up next week. Jason

What do the 3 inch mid pipes mate up to? FM downpipe? Did you slot the bolt holes at the downpipe flange to mate up to a 2.5 (FM or BEGI)?

Very interested.

I have several custom flanges that I have had made to fit the majority of the downpipes on the market. I should be able to match the 2.5" FM, or 2.5 to 2.75" BEGi. The midpipe is availiable with or without a Cat. Don't have any sound clips yet. I Have been toying with the idea to Build an 3" XR lightweight. Just to see how it would sound. Jason

We're looking at $450 for the NB uncatted? Magnaflow muffler or other?

I was thinking of using a magnaflow muffler for the dual. The single uses an ansa muffler that I have used on the 90-97' cars with 3" exhaust for years. I could use a magnaflow on the single if you have a perference to that brand. I didn't understand this "looking at $450 for the NB uncatted?"
I had one of my customers with the new 3" call me this evening and said everything fit with plenty of room spare. I was nervious it might be too close to the tow hook under the car. Jason

how much lead time is needed to get a 3" put together. What are my options if I want to run no cat, but a test pipe in case I need legit inspection?

I had that tow hook problem with my custom 3" with a giant 22" magnaflow muffler. It sits about 1/8" from the bracket of the tow hook on the passenger side. or rather did before I got out the sawzall!

it's dark and hard to see, but the tradeoff was to use a shorter muffler... and I'm not sure shorter is going to cut the drone on the freeway. as it is now, this one doesn't have ANY drone during cruise. It's a magnaflow 14589. And I love it.

Sadly though nobody at the dyno day got sound / video clips of my car... DID THEY?

Hustler, I need about a 7 day leadtime to work thru the orders I currently have on the books. I can build the midpipe in stainless or aluminized. The aluminized will save about $80. I have built a few of these (and other) midpipes with the metal core cats. We had these cats on a LS1 powered RX-7 and noticed NO loss of hp with the cats installed when we tested it on the dyno.
