350z Inlet

I did a search and didn't see anything..... So I decided to try and be a pioneer and grab one. 15 shipped off ebay. Looks like this.

I thought it would be a great way to open up the upper part of the bumper with out cutting a massive hole above the lower radiator inlet. I am going to cut some of the back off to open the hole up more for more air flow. It probably isn't necessary, for more flow there in most cases, but it regularly hits 90-100 during the day, so I figured the extra flow couldn't hurt. I have made a template, and will be documenting as I go. Any opinions?

be interesting to see what it looks like and if it does help out cooling

18psi 03-25-2011 01:16 AM

looks cool.
can't say if its brilliant or dogshit til I see it on the car though

Savington 03-25-2011 02:59 AM

Cool idea, but unnecessary. One of my short-list projects is to rebuild the duct work on the front of my car and reduce the frontal area opening by another ~15% or so.

Snap a couple pictures of it against the bumper. You have an NA? It looks like it may work for brake ducts, could be too big though. Or have an incompatible curve/angle.

Doppelgänger 03-25-2011 07:48 AM

I've seen pics on CR of someone who did it. Came out looking pretty cool.

God dammit I don't want it up there.

While you're taking pictures of it by the radiator opening on an NA, take some dimensions and the diameter of the outlet, ok?

Machismo 03-25-2011 09:06 AM

That just might be the right size and angle I need to combine my r-lip and previous bumper cutouts for brake inlets. Hmmm...

chicksdigmiatas 03-25-2011 11:32 AM

For brakes, I was thinking of the naca ducts with the 3 inch hose attatchment that can be had on ebay for like 10 dollars each on the sides of the bumpers... This inlet is odd, It was for the passenger side, maybe that is why I got it so cheap, but I figured that it doesn't matter. Curly, You want the dimensions after you remove the styrofoam of the top half over the bumper support, or the whole deal? Or the outlet of the scoop I am using? Right now it is like 1" x 1.5" and I was going to cut some of the back off to enlarge it, then use some rv sewer hose if neccessary to route the air where i need it.

mad doc 03-25-2011 11:39 AM

Someone is thinking along the same lines as I am... I bought one the other day off eBay - it showed up and guess what - they sent me a passenger-side one, not a driver-side vent.

So, I get to send it back for an exchange. I was trying to figure out if I could snake an intake hose into it for a ram air effect.

From what I figured on the passenger-side, the curve seems pretty good.

The odd shape of the inlet is what I would need. But still don't think it will do for my application. Time for some more FG and molding. This is what I am trying to clean up at the moment.

chicksdigmiatas 03-25-2011 11:47 AM

Those lower brake ducts? Get you a double outlet naca... that would cover it. I am not using it for intake purposes, just not wanting to hole saw my front bumper lol. BTW machismo, which hood is that?

Machismo 03-25-2011 11:52 AM

This would work perfect for routing fresh air to my turbo. I have the inlet turn signals and also thought about a NACA duct on the hood but I think I may go with the same design.

crappy cell pic, but here it is. It feeds into a filter housing that sits in front of the turbo and then directly into the compressor.

Attachment 20120

crap, can't seem to attach it any larger for some reason.

hustler 03-25-2011 09:57 PM

You don't need that shit, the car will cool just fine without it. If you want to put air somewhere, use a NACA under the car on the belly pan.
