Fantastic. TSE parts too please!
|
Yep. My plan is to reach out to all of the miata aftermarket companies that make cool stuff and try to get them on board. That phase is probably 5-6 months out. Personally, I think it would be really cool to see the small companies that actually serve the motorsports community presented in a video game. From what I have seen of games like Forza, it's mostly huge companies and hard parker stuff.

Excellent work!
|
Really great idea and implementation! We use a similar concept in work, in conjunction with augmented reality (using Microsoft Hololens) to train assembly line workers with interactive instructions.
|
Cats for the awesome work. Seriously. Also looks like your video is going somewhat viral, saw it run across my FB page today, pretty sweet!
|
Got linked to your video in a non car chat. Took me about 5 seconds to realize what it was and then I had a good laugh! It looks great so far.
Is it bad the moment the upper control arm came into view I realized it was a Miata and then remembered this project? |
Just as an idea, was wondering if it would be feasible to scan a complete interior. That would allow easy testing of modifications and layouts of controls, gauges etc.
|
Taking apart my 95 engine and getting good notes while I do it.. All of this will go into a spreadsheet and I will post it later. I have been resisting the temptation to weigh everything and add that to the note cards....

You sir are crazy! Hats off!
Any chance to also do an interior scan? |
On my dream list, how much of the unibody section are you planning on doing?
|
I'm building a catfish for my first car so im not planning to scan the unibody. Maybe someday I will be able to get a license for a miata, if I do I will do a full interior/exterior scan.

Oh well, one can always hope that strangers will do the hard work for them. ;) Obviously, those are really good looking results! I've tried using photo-based reconstruction stuff before and never had really satisfactory output.
|
I've been following this for a while and love the progress. As both a VR and Miata junkie, this appeals to me greatly.
One thing that strikes me in particular: If you're building a game to build a Miata/Catfish, you're basically making a game to build an Exocet. Don't know if you've talked to Exomotive, but that would be pretty sweet. |
If you ever need help or want 3D solidworks files I work as a mechanical designer for a living and use solidworks everyday. Give me a shout!

Are you willing to share the 3D files for the parts in the game for us to convert to CAD files?
|
I already posted a bunch of suspension parts for free on gumroad. I'll get around to posting engine stuff when I have time.

I'd love the other hubs and control arms when you have time! thanks, this is amazing
|
This is freaking cool, Subscribed.
|
Great job on this! Do you by any chance have a CAD-model of a bare engine block that you would be willing to share?
|
I did this as a joke but then I ended up liking it and it's probably going to stay. Next up the bolts turn red and sink into the ground if you give a thumbs down.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBVw...ature=youtu.be Also, I'm planning to be at hyperfest for at least one day and I'm trying to find someone with some extra space for me to demo Wrench. I have a few feelers outs right now. |
I lol'd a bunch of times |
Are you able to share the cad files of the engine head and block on your gunroad site?

Getting the engine moving: |
I posted some 3D scans of VVT parts here:

This is great!
What is the goal of the game?
If you're going to get all the aftermarket parts in there it would be nice to see some dimensions from points of interest. Dimensions of mating hole patterns. 2d orthographs of scale drawings of mating surfaces between specific parts. In the physics area ... How far are you willing to go? Simulation of road conditions with a selected suspension package? Dude, this has many possibilities. Get it sponsored by the aftermarket vendors not the user base, keep it free and it will become a project that may take over your life (diabolical laughter) |
This game just came up on early access on steam! Congrats on the release dude. Already made my purchase, you have made way more than $20 worth of contributions to this comunity already.
This will be good practice for building my engine. |

Front upright and LBJ. I'm reprocessing with scale information and then I will be able to make some conclusive statements about dimensional accuracy.

Rear Subframe
This is amazing with some great work…
Has anyone got a 3D scanned or even a CAD file of the NA rear subframe? b |
There is (was?) one on GrabCad a few years back. Modelled, not scanned if I recall correctly.
|
Engine Plastics STL?
Do you have the scan of the stock VVT engine plastics/ the VVT valve cover? I couldn't find them in your file library. I'm looking to make forged carbon fiber replacements for all the engine plastics, and I am looking for the STL's to base my molds off of.
