Can someone tell me what the difference is between a sprung hub and a sloid hub. Is one better than the other, why the option?

I ws looking at clutchnet.com and there are so many options in material and sprung or solid.

Solid is an on or off switch.
Sprung is more streetable.

A sprung hub will take up some of the stress on the system as you launch, however a sprung hub will also chatter as it grabs and releases as you try to slip the clutch. Mine does this a lot in reverse.

i dont see much difference b/w sprung and unsprung. Those little springs dont compress much. The only reason they are even there is to help absorb some of the drivetrain vibrations to maybe help you transmission last 200k+ miles. The slipping ability of a clutch has mainly to do with the friction surface of the clutch disc, not the hub type.

The chatter seems to be the springs compressing then rebounding as the pucks "ungrab" while slipping the clutch. I invented the word for the mental picture.:gay:

Now lets talk about flywheel lightening. Is it really worth it? How many have done it and how much did you pay. I called a few places this morning and none can give me a number, they all just tell me their hourly age. Should a machine shop also be able to balance the flywheel?

It's not worth it. I think ben did it and it cost him around $130 or more maybe. That including shaving it down and balancing and surfacing. The extra weight of the flywheel makes it easier to take off from a stop. Your revs drop faster with the lighter flywheel but I personally don't think it's worth it. Some guys love them though, some hate them.

Stay away from Kevlar clutches... once they get hot, they slip like crazy. Stay away from Spec, known issues with it's products the company refuses to address.

There will be lots of advice from lots of people on what clutch to get. The only truth we know in the community is that ACT is the ****. They never break, they last forever, they clamp like alligator jaws, and they're only a little more expensive. It's also generally accepted that they are slighly underrated in clamping power. When I Squirt here in a few months and turn it up to 15psi, I'm almost definitely going with an ACT XT @277ftlbs holding.

Before you spend money on a lightened/light flywheel, YOU'VE GOT TO DRIVE ONE ON THE STREET FOR AN HOUR TO SEE IF IT'S FOR YOU! Not ten minutes, not around the block... an hour!

I run a unsprung 4 puck on my act XT rated 307 it was cheaper, the unsprung clutch is a little weird on engagement but, it is still workable it is just different.
