'94 Block into a '99?
I asked this over a m.net while this site was having some issues yesterday...
I am looking for a bottom end to build for my '99. I found a block out of an automatic '94 locally. All I'd be keeping is the crank and the block itself. Will this work? The only think I can think of being different other than the oil feed on the exhaust side is the knock sensor mount. Is this present on the '94? Thanks |
the 94's didnt have knock sensors, i would have to check to see if it has the mounts though
you should not have any problems fitting it though, i know a few people that have used 94-95 blocks and 99+ heads |

the only difference should be the lower compression and stronger rods.
|
he is not reusing the pistons or rods though
|
Thanks guys. I'm going to go snag this and start to build up a bottom end.
|
good luck, i have plans for a build later this year
are you going to keep track of all the parts you had to get, like bearings, gaskets, seals, bolts, etc. im trying to get everything ahead of time and im sure i will forget something |
Yeah, I'll inventory everything. Rods I know where to get; how about pistons? I'm looking for something in the first overbore, 9:1 compression ratio flavor.
|
weisco. try http://www.importperformanceparts.net/ iirc $439 for 8.8:1 or
http://www.raceeng.com/p-6760-wis-mi...urborings.aspx they'll most liekly have them in stock. |
tip: do not jb-weld your knock sensor on.
|
The 94 block has a spot exactly where the 99 does for the knock sensor. I have done it myself a couple times.
Its an easy transition to that block.. Have fun with it. |
Thanks for the info on the block and the tip on the knock sensor. I'm trying to avoid all things ghetto on this car, but you never know when they'll make an appearance. :bigtu: I'd at least use the stick welder.
So Wisecos, rods from 949 (this is all if the Chinese stroker crank deal doesn't work out). How about valve train? Raceengineering has some stuff, is there anything better? Thanks |
supertech makes both pistons and the whole valvetrain.
|
i wouldn't worry about the valvetrain unless you are thinking of reving higher or throwing in cams.
