99/00 bp4w block usable in a MSM

Was wondering if a bp4w short block from a 99/00 can be used in a 04 MSM after transferring all of the components over or if there were differences between the two engines.

The main thing in the MSM block is the factory oil & water ports for the MSM turbo aren't in the BP4W block. The MSM pan is also supposedly different (I don't know personally).

Yes, the MSM oil pan has a fitting for the oil return integrated into it.

Basically, to use any non-MSM BP block in an MSM application, you'll have to do all of the things you'd normally do when installing an aftermarket turbo onto a non-MSM car, in terms of oil and coolant. With the added caveat that you won't be dealing directly with NPT or AN sizes on the turbo side.

Certainly not impossible, especially with the engine out of the car. Just something to be aware of.

Here's an old thread in which a guy installed an MSM turbo onto a on-MSM car: https://www.miataturbo.net/build-thr...your-nb-62607/

I'll spare you the lecture about how the MSM turbo setup really isn't anything special, as I'm sure you've heard it.
