I also bought a '00 6-speed. My '99 5-speed shift lever was a perfect fit for it.
99-00 6-speed transmissions have a small pivot ball on the shift lever, 01+ 6-speeds have a larger pivot ball on the shifter. |
Yeah, but WHICH Mazda 6spd is shown in that picture? There are two.

Good point.
So you couldn't swap those two anyways. |

I am not sure how you got that to work. Clearly there are length differences. Maybe yours now acts like a short shifter.

Can't believe I missed this thread after alot of worrying about this subject lately. I bought a 01 6 speed recently. I planned on modifying my 5 speed shifter to work (because other threads said it wouldn't) or biting the bullet and actually buying one if I couldn't get it to work. Out of curiosity I put my 00 5 speed shifter in and it 'SEEMS' to work just fine. At the same time I built my bottom end and doing some other stuff so I haven't actually driven it yet but shifting it seems fine so far.
tl;dr 99 5 speed shifter seems to work in 01 6 speed, no modifications. Edit: our shifters are m10x1.25 right? I'm thinking this |
