99-05 - Are you over 200hp? Stock Engine?
Just as the title mentions.. Is your 99-05 over 200hp?
Is your Motor a Stock 99+ Bottom End? What is your Setup? What Engine Management? 99+ Swap folks make sure you answer also! Many people think it is not wise to do this.. Just want to take inventory as I plan on making close to 300hp with mine :) |
I dyno'ed at 199 when I was at 9psi. Now I am at 10.5 so I should be around 215hp.
Stock Engine Parallel Megasquirt Fuel & Spark with NA CAS. |
Paul's 99 motor with stock internals did 300hp and its still going.
|
I'll have some numbers for you later in the week from the setup in my sig. Going to make a few pulls before I put in the built motor.
|
Pretty positive I am there.
See below. |
2001 stock motor
9.5 psi 257 rwhp for like forever or so. I think the turbo first went on at about 35k and I'm at 85k now... |
2000, hydra, homebrew T3T4 setup, 292 wheel on a completely stock block and head. The car has been driven quite a bit at this power level and I haven't had any issues (knocks on wood)
|
my 03 motor did 220 at 10psi with f/ic
|
257 @ 12psi
GT2860RS Xede w/550s 3inch from turbo to tail |
I think the only parts shared between 99-00 and 01-05 are the block castings, con rods, and exhaust cam.
There are eleventy billion 200+ whp 99 and newer miatas. |
I hear ya Ben.. Just trying to show/see how many people are doing the impossible. I personally think the key is solid engine management and fuel system.
Whenever I see a damaged 99+ engine it seems that #1 takes a lot of abuse and it furthest away from the fuel feed source. |
it may be of note that I've had a dual feed vishnu* rail on since day one. and try not to run richer than 12.5:1 if I can help it.
*to my own chagrin |
A lot of these failures are supercharger guys. Supercharger guys usually don't believe in management.

I'd love to throw an EXTERNAL datalogger on one of these systems and truely see what is going on! |

Yeah, it seems most with failures are using the AEM F/IC, Link Piggy and Power Card. I wonder if it is something to do with the way these systems integrate with the timing control.
|
EDITed, but left in EMB/EMU as I've seen some similar results. Even as recently as last month with a local car to me. Chucked a Rod at 12psi.

My ass dyno tells me that my car likes 12.0:1 more than 12.5:1
seriously, whichever yields better numbers on the dyno is what I'd run. I just haven't compared too closely. it could also be that the .6 more compression likes leaner mixture? |
Not that I think it's related to the failure, but as a data point, my supercharged car was running an EMU when the rods bent.
Again, not that it's related, but the Megasquirt II is sitting on my desk waiting to go in. I was looking for 1) better control over the 750cc injectors at partial throttle, 2) support for a flex fuel sensor to support various mixtures of e-85, 3) the ability to drive a coil on plug setup and adjust dwell 4) the ability to accept input from a Knocksense and act on it. |
